Learning Irish Songs and Fiddle Tunes | |||||||||||||||||
Whiskey in the Jar aka Kilgarney Mountain is a devil-may-care song in which the protagonist is a brigand who is thrown in jaim "without judge or writin'. I learned the tune from a whizened old guitar player in whose version the femme fatale is named "Molly" but sometimes it is sung as "Jenny". On the other hand, the antagonist given as "Colonel Pepper" is in other versions "Captain Farrell". ANy way you play it, it's fun. I will post the words and the tune at some point. |
