Library Historical Background Along with the College of Agriculture in Raipur, this Library came in to existence in the year 1961. In the early stages college was started in a Bungalow with a very big compound. Hon'ble Raja of Kawardha State permitted to start College of Agriculture. This place is called "Kawardha Bada". It is also known as "Imli Bada", because in the compound many big trees of Imli (Tamarind) were there. This area is called Pension Bada adjoining Byron Bazar area. It is one of the famous and old areas of Raipur. In 1965 the library alongwith the college was shifted in a temporary building with asbestos roof. In 1970 the library was again shifted in the then new Agricultural College building. Library was given a hall where at present is the Dean's office and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Department. In April 1992 the library was shifted in a newly built University library building. The ground floor has been given to two departments of the university. The university library's ground floor is 1003 sq. m. and first floor is 947 sq. m. It was constructed with a total cost of Rs. 54.5 lacks. Out of this amount a sum of Rs. 20 lacks was received as financial assistance from I.C.A.R., New Delhi and remaining expenditure was assistance from the grants-in-aid received from the state government of Madhya Pradesh. It was inaugurated on 30th March, 1994, by Hon'ble Chancellor and Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Mohammed Shafi Qureshi and Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Kirti Singh, and the name was given as "Nehru Library".
