Tony, The BaloneyMan"

In November of 1990, I lost the second of my two little chihuahuas that I had had for many years. Her name was also Tony and she was 14 years old. I had previously lost Bambi, who I'd had since I was 19 years old. She was 18 1/2 when she died in December 1988. After losing Tony, even though I still had two big dogs, Roscoe and Bear, I really needed another chihuahua. My mother started telling everyone we knew from then until my birthday in March that someone needed to get me another chihuahua. She's like that!
On the night before my birthday, March 12, 1991, my neighbor came over saying that she was waiting for her daughter, Dena, who was supposed to be coming by in a little bit. We sat and talked awhile and then Dena showed up. She came in, with a new boyfriend in tow, and set her purse down on my dining room table. Then she asked me to look in her purse for something. When I lifted the flap, something moved. It was a tiny little "gizmo" looking creature. At first, I thought it was a stuffed toy and that I had moved it when I moved the flap. I jumped back and then it moved again.
I screamed and looked again at the darling little creature, which I had just scared to death, and grabbed him up. I handed him to my neighbor when I realized I was shaking so bad I was gonna drop him. Realizing this little thing was for me, I grabbed him back and went to sit on the couch. I proceeded to cry while my husband came over to see the baby and try to calm me down. I finally calmed down enough to meet my friends' daughter's new boyfriend and thank them for the wonderful birthday present. Tony has been "Cock of the Walk" around here ever since.

Cheyenne, the little girl holding Tony, (above) is the daughter of Dena, the young woman who got him for me. Dena died that same year in a car wreck. She wasn't quite 19. She is pictured on our Memorial Page. Pictured on the couch are Randy, Tony of course, BoBo and Kongarua, who was Tony's favorite cat. He was a neat little manx cat (no tale bone at all). He didn't live very long, even though he always seemed so healthy. We just found him dead one evening after seeing him playing with Tony earlier. He had never even left our backyard in the 2 years he lived.
Tony and I went to his Daddy's jobsite up in San Jose alot his first year. He always stayed awake and wanted to look around in the car, until we got to the highway and then he would go to sleep. Just about the time we got off the highway in San Jose, Tony would pop up like he knew where we were! The big dog sitting on my head, is Roscoe. He was still a baby here. He was our last big dog until Rosenblatt. He was a great dog. We had to have him put to sleep at 12 years old because his poor old bones hurt him so much.

Tony really was the cutest dog we have ever had. And he had a great heart, he was brave.
We had Tony put to sleep 10yrs and 6 mo. from the day he was born. To the day. I found some really hard growths under his neck giving him a bath. In the weeks that followed, his belly began to swell and you could tell he didn't feel very good. He was hurting. But as long as he would still eat everyday, I was not going to put him down. On June 1, 2001, he stopped eating, and we took him on the 3rd. We brought him home and buried him outside our bedroom window. We miss him so much.
