To "McGoo's Miracle"
We found McGoo in an alley living with his mother and brother as strays. The people in the apartments there were telling me I could have any of the dogs there if I wanted because they didn't belong to anyone. I said I already had 10 dogs and couldn't take another. But then I saw McGoo!
I know people who have made the ridiculous statement, "Well, when you pull up plants to eat, you kill them too, doesn't that bother you?" Well..., NO! My carrots, potatoes etc., do not look at me, rub on me, lick me, wag their tails at me, they do not cuddle their young, cry out when hurt or bleed when cut, oh need I go on? The one major reason animals are treated so horrendously in laboratories, on the factory farms, and just being mistreated or neglected as pets is because they cannot speak. Well, I say this! They speak to me. And I only wish that one day in some laboratory or other brutal situation a dog, or monkey, or rabbit or whatever animal man chooses to torture, could look right into this person's eyes and ask "WHY?"
I got an award, I got an award!! Bark, Bark..Woof, Woof!!!
O.K., O.K., Marty, calm down!!
Whoa! Martin was so excited he just had to break right in on my story.
Oh, I could go on forever. But I won't. It is just that my little blind dog makes me think of all the bad things that could have happened to him had we not found each other.
He "looks" at things, even though he can't see them. He knows they are there. I know he knows the squirrels are in that cage!
Then later my husband, Randy, asked me how McGoo did walking on a leash and I told him that he really didn't know what he was doing. Then Randy said, "Why don't you put the two halters together and put a leash on them and let Rosie lead McGoo." Whoa, this was right after our neighbor made the seeing eye dog comment. What a great idea. Since McGoo loves Rosie so much, he will probably be great walking next to him even though he doesn't know where he is going! Kinda the "dumb" leading the blind!! Ha, ha! Rosenblatt hasn't come into his intelligence yet. I've been told it take labs anywhere from 2 to 5 years and then they are really brilliant dogs! Well, not yet. He is wonderful and loving and cute and darling, but DUMB as a stump.
Anyway, today I am going to try the dual walking thing with him and McGoo. I hope they have a ball! I know I will.
