Summarized Notes of Baccano! Novel-Only Characters Characters who appeared in the anime but were not elaborated upon are also mentioned. Listed in alphabetical order in the following format: Approximated English Name Untranslated Name Affiliated Organization(s) Era(s) of Activity ----- Description NOTE: The list is still largely incomplete and is essentially the translated version of the Japanese Wikipedia page compiled with my elementary Japanese skills and information pulled from a variety of translators. ----------------------------------------------------- Adele Aderu (Vampires "Lamia") 1930's ----- Homunculus created by Huey. She doesn't age. Adele is a timid-looking woman who taught herself how to use a spear that folds out. Maria was able to overpower her in a fight. She's still in an experimental phase, the biggest problem being her personality. Adele made a small cameo appearance in the first episode of the anime and even gets one line of spoken dialogue. Christoper Chareau de Red Kurisutofa- Sharudere-do (Vampires "Lamia") 1930's ----- A homunculus created by Huey with the knowledge he stole from Szilard, and like the other homunuculi, he doesn't age. He's the sort of figurehead of an organization refered to as "The Vampires", and earned the nickname from his red eyes and sharp teeth. He has the tendency to be moody at times, and because of his unnatural existence, he has a thing for nature. His weapons are two bayonets and he had fought with Claire. He obtained a serious stab wound and was rescued by Ricardo Russo. He's been in shock since his battle with Claire and hasn't been able to kill people since. It's been hinted that he's still alive in the 2002 storyline. Ryohgo Narita named him after the actor Christopher Walken. He also likes sweet food. Claudia Walken Kuro-dia Wo-ruken (Walken Group) 2000's ----- A 14 year-old girl who is the acquaintance of the Martillo Family. She is a child actress with golden eyes and beautiful red hair. Claudia has many fans in America and share the same "the world is mine" philosophy as Claire. In 2002, she searched for the whereabouts of Illness and called for the aid of detectives. Edith E-disu 1932 Drug and the Dominos 1930's ----- A waitress who works in a bar ran by the Gandor Family. Her lover is Roy Maddock. Due to time restrictions, her and Roy's storyline were cut from the anime series. Elmer C. Albatross Eruma- C Arubatorosu (Alchemists) 1700's, 2000's ----- Because he is always smiling, he's been given the nicknames "Smile Junkie" and "Mr. Happy Ending". He is always making people laugh and telling jokes, but believes that just because he likes to make people smile, he should never lie. After becoming an immortal, it has become his goal to make everyone happy, but he does not distinguish between good and evil, making his smile perhaps more demonic as opposed to saintly. Huey even admits to being distorted by Elmer's "pure evil", but Huey considers Elmer to be his best friend. He was invited onboard the luxury liner named "Exit" to America by Huey in the 2002 storyline and became involved in the "Luchino mask maker" incident. It was also revealed that Elmer was onboard the Flying Pussyfoot during the Grand Punk Railroad storyline. Further details of his involvement are in the DS game that has yet to be released. Esperanza C. Broniare Esuperansa C Boroniaru 1700's ----- A member of the Spanish nobility, the lord of Rottovalentino. He is known for his strange appearance, with star tattoos under both of his eyes. He loves women and has a gentlemanly attitude toward them. When it comes to men, his personality can be unpredictable. Esperanza is friends with Elmer. Graham Specter Gurahamu Supekuta- (Russo Family/Jacuzzi's Delinquents) 1930's ----- A man always wearing blue work clothes and fights with a long monkey wrench. He works for the Russo family and is a big fan of Ladd Russo. Unlike Ladd who likes to kill for the sake of killing, Graham's "philosophy" is that he likes to "break" people, but not kill them. He later meets with Jacuzzi and grows to admire him as well, earning him a position as an honorary member of the delinquents. His mood is always at the extreme ends of the spectrum. In terms of fighting ability, he is on par with Christopher's skills, as exemplified in a very close fight between the two. He is perhaps most well-known for his strange speech patterns, in which he talks in a very poetic manner. He can't hold his liquor well. Frank Furanku (Vampires "Lamia") ----- Another homunculus produced by Huey. Despite being a child, he is incredibly large. Hong Chi'mei Hon Chi-mei (Vampires "Lamia") 1930's ----- An unaging homunculus created by Huey who is Asian in appearance. His serious personality is bothersome to his partner, Chris. Hong fights using metal claws. It seems he was blamed for the attack on Senator Beriam and was captured in 1933. The Vampires make a reappearance in 1934 in Chicago, but it is unclear whether Hong escaped from jail and joined them, or if he still remains imprisoned. Illness Irunesu (The Mask Makers) 2000's ----- A young woman dressed in a Gothic-style black and yellow dress, often carrying a matching parasol. She is ranked highly as one out of the four strongest members in her group. It seems she was involved in some cult affairs and was treated cruelly as to teach her some sort of a lesson. As thus, she's very disconnected when it comes to human interaction, but eventually befriends a girl named Claudia while traveling on luxury liner named "The Entrance", who restores her hope in life. Maria Balserito Maria Baruseri-to (Runorata Family/Gandor Family) 1930's ----- She was initially hired as an assassin by the Runorata family, but she was opposed to them and eventually pledged her loyalty to the Gandor Family. Despite her womanly looks, she's still very childish in nature. Her country of origin being Mexico, she often refers to people as "amigo". She has a close relationship with Tick Jefferson. Maria fights using two samurai swords named "Murasamia" and "Kochite", which were passed down from her grandfather. She makes a cameo appearance in the first episode of the anime series. Monica Campanella Monika Kanpanerura 1700's ----- A student at the alchemy academy. Sister of Esperanza, but they do not live together. She instead lives in the house of a pastry chef. She confessed her love to Huey, but it was rejected. (There's something about murder and revenge, but the two possible interpretations are so radically different that I excluded the detail instead of putting the wrong information in.) Nikki Niki 1700's ----- A despaired young woman who wished to die. She encountered the Mask Makers, and cooperated with them with the promise of dying. But after meeting Elmer and Esperanza, she had changed her mind. She was arrested by Ralph. After the incident, she says something along the lines of "the consequences of my action has arrived". She is last seen traveling in a carriage leaving town saying "She'll spend her lifetime looking for a place to die." Nile Nairu (Alchemists) 1700's, 2000's ----- After becoming an immortal, he learned to overlook death, but after fighting on the battlefield, and being re-exposed to it, death has become something that is constantly on his mind. He uses the phrase "oeteiu", which roughly translates to "dare tell". He worked as an archaeologist under the king and was thus named after the Nile River. He can speak Berber, Chinese, Indonesian and English. In 2001, he was staying Japan and was defeated in a fist fight, which is not something he'd like to remember. In 2002, he was invited to the "Exit" luxury liner by Huey LaForet and was detained by the FBI upon reaching America. (I'm also getting something about breaking Christopher's teeth. Lolwut?) Reil Reiru (Vampires "Lamia"/Jacuzzi's Delinquents) 1930's ----- A homunculus created by Huey as a test subject for his drug "Rhythm". As a result of the experiments she has lost her ability to feel the sensation of pain. Much like Ricardo, she refers to herself using the more masculine version of "I", despite being a girl. She had large stitch-marks that run across her face, which were obtained from a bomb explosion. She gets along with Nice because both of them have a love for bombs and she is presently traveling with Jacuzzi. Reil harbors a deep hatred for Huey. Renee Paramedes Branvillier Rune Paramedesu Baranbirie (Alchemists) 1700's, 1930's ----- A beautiful blue-haired young woman who attended a private school that specializes in history and alchemy during the 1700's. Huey would call her "Teacher Paramedesu". In the 1930's she served as the sixth director of development in the Nebula Pharmaceutical Sector, which was involved in research studies involving the immortals. She is very innocent in speech and behavior, covering up the fact that she is a cold-blooded as a scientist. She had some sort of involvement in the 1934 incident with Huey. Ricardo Russo Rikarudo Russo (Russo Family) 1930's ----- The grandchild of Prachid Russo, the boss the Russo family. She often uses the word "ore", which, in Japanese, is the male version of "I", as opposed to the more feminine "watashi". She saved Chris from a fatal wound. Her real name is Lydia. (NOTE: I'm getting something about this "Sham" thing, but I don't think I'm understanding it properly, so I omitted it.) Riza Ri-za (Vampires "Lamia") 1930's ----- The daughter of Huey and the sister of Chane. She's skilled at using chakrams. Was apparently only half of a set of twins, the other being named Hilton. She was involved in the 1934 Alcatraz incident and it seems she wanted to get back at Firo to avenge Huey, but wound up doing more of the opposite. Ronnie Skiart Ro-ni Sukia-to (Martillo Family) 1930's ----- Served as the secretary for the Martillo family during the early 20's and was a master at knife combat, teaching Firo his skills. He has the tendency to say "Maii" a lot, which translates into something along the lines of "Very well". Roy Maddock Roi Ma-dokku 1930's ----- One of the protagonists of 1932 "Drug and The Dominoes". He is a drug addict who is in love with Edith. Sickle Shiikuru (Vampires "Lamia") 1930's ----- Yet another homunculus created by Huey, and once again, she does not age. She fights using the capoeira style. Despite her nearly artisocratic appearance, her manners aren't exactly womanly. Shaft Shafuto (Russo Family) 1930's ----- One of Graham's collegue's. Essentially his loyal right-hand man. Sharon Walken Sharon Wo-ruken (Walken Group) 2000's ----- The younger brother of Claudia. He has black hair (he dyed his red hair) and golden eyes. He, like his sister, is a child actor, but also works as his own stuntman. He is quiet and often keeps to himself. In 2002, he becomes the witness of an important incident. Sylvie Lumiere Shirubi Ryumie-ru (Alchemists) 1700's, 2000's ----- Maiza's brother's girlfriend. Wants to take revenge on Szilard for her boyfriend's death. She did not consume the elixir of life while onboard the Advena Avis, but waited until she was in her twenties. She later moved place to place, working as a singer between the 1970's and 2001 and was renowned for remarkable beauty. In 2002, she was invited by Huey on the luxury liner "Exit", which was on its way to America. Upon reaching the United States, she was detained by the FBI. "The Poet" (Vampires "Lamia") 1930's ----- Huey's homunculus. He is always seen wearing a hat and using abstract expressions. Christopher doesn't like him too much. He has the ability to hypnotize people like looking into the recesses of their mind. Tick Jefferson Chiku Jefa-son (Gandor Family) 1930's ----- The son of the owner of a clock store. Joined the Gandor family to pay off his father's debt. He is always smiling and seems to be carefree. He serves as the Gandor's torturer and always carries scissors with him. Has a close relationship with Maria. Tim Timu (Vampires "Lamia") ----- A man who practices cautious and rational judgement. Tim's real last name is Jefferson and he is actually Tick's brother. Huey took him under his wing at a young age, and in order to throw away his past, Huey changed his name and physical appearance.
