.:: Course Requirement

There are only two types of students who go into the IDS program.

First, if you are an individual who is fiercely independent and very creative, and you want to have more say in charting your own future, then the A. B. Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) program is for you. After the first two years of taking general education subjects, you get to choose your own fields of specialization through the various free elective opportunities built into the program. You can mix and match two or three different fields, or focus on a single area of specialization according to your own needs, preferences and plans for your future.

Second, if you are an individual who has something extraordinary to offer to the world—but the world doesn’t know it yet and it repeatedly tries to make you fit into a mold of its own making, making you always come out misunderstood, even rejected, always a lonely misfit in the crowd … then, IDS is the home for you. Here, we help you:

Find your best and truest selves; Bloom; and Redeem yourselves, proving to those who misjudged you that you are made of better and finer stuff

Once you have graduated from the program, you bring with you three very important legacies:

A broad-based and well-rounded La Sallian education; “People” skills, from having to deal with different people in different circumstances throughout the course of
your education; and Character, borne out of and refined by early experiences with artificial obstacles in the course of your education.

So, someday, as an IDS graduate, you can go to anywhere in the world and be anywhere in life, and need never be
afraid. You already know: whatever happens, you will survive.

And how magnificently you survive!
