Thank you for taking the time to review my resume and these samples of my work, below is a brief personal history that describes in a little more detail how I grew up in the business developing my skills and gaining practical experience.

Darrel Biggs

Personal History:

In 1969 my Father started a retail nursery business which grew into a full fledge Design/Build Landscape company. Always on the cutting edge of ideas and procedures we were one of the first companies to utilize computers to do our bidding and estimating, in the early 80's we bought our first computer which cost over $6000, it had a 6" B&W monitor and didn't have much more capacity then today's calculators. We understood the necessity to monitor and calculate in all time and materials and the overhead of the construction process. As a family business, myself and four brothers grew up doing everything. My knowledge is based on a solid background of landscaping from the ground up, from trenching and digging holes, gluing pipe to crane setting 72"trees and 30 ton boulders (yes, 30 tons) to supervising multiple crews, running a bobcat, backhoe, or dump truck, installing jobs in a small patio-home space to multi-family housing complexes and multi-million dollar homes. I grew to love the business and went on to get a bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Arizona, a 5 year undergrad program that was strong in graphic arts and design, site analysis and presentation preparation.

After graduating I went back into the family Design/Build business for several years and continued to learn by doing. Concentrating more on the design and sales aspects I have worked on and designed projects from one of the hottest spots in the country, Bullhead City, Arizona,  to one of the wettest areas in North America, Washington and Oregon. Projects have ranged over the years from small residential homes to Multi-million dollar estates on top of granite-rock mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona, parks, multi-use retention basins, commercial complexes, multi-family housing, water features, landscape art, lighting, street-scapes, entertainment sites, putting greens and swimming pools, fireplaces and fire pits, bar-b-que's, outdoor kitchens, gas and electrical, decorative walls, seat walls and retaining walls, lakeside homes, grading and drainage nightmares, flagstone, pavestone, culture stone, exposed-ag, parking lot design and layout, church properties, ramadas, arbors, screen walls, decking, natural and man-made boulders and more.

Above is my Resume, I want you to understand what is behind that resume, that I have both a practical knowledge built on 25+ years actual experience and a degree in Landscape Architecture. When I do a site analysis, review a plan, design a space, draw a detail, I have a very good understanding of what is happening or going to happen based on a solid background of experience. But, I also continue to learn through observation and pushing the boundaries and designing outside the box, I know I don't know everything, I am teachable, I'm not afraid to ask questions and search for the answers and I am always seeking more knowledge.
