WHAT IS A ROOM MOM?

*A room mom is someone who assist the teacher.

*The primary purpose of a room mom is to plan and host classroom parties.

WHAT IS A "LEAD" ROOM MOM?

*There are usually 2 room moms appointed to a classroom.
*One room mom may be assigned as the "Lead" room mom.  She is responible for getting plans started on parties, communicating with the teacher and sending home notes to parents to tell them about any upcoming party.

WHAT DOES A CLASSROOM PARTY INVOLVE?

*Classroom parties take place during the school day.

*The teacher will pick a day that works best for her and her schedule.

*Parties are usually made up of games, crafts, snacks and party favors.

*Room moms and parents are the host of the party.  Your teacher will always attend the party.

*Common parties for pre-school and elementary age children are:
- Halloween/Harvest
- Christmas/Holiday
- Valentine's Day
- End of the Year

ROOM MOM PARTY BASICS

*Always run your plan by the teacher in advance.  She may have other ideas or plans.
Every teacher is different so what you did last year may not be okay for this year.

*Delegating tasks will help cut down out of pocket costs.  Remember that this party is for the entire class and you are not responsible for the full cost.

*Most schools have money set aside for parties, but from experience that is never enough.

*The best thing to do is request items from parents whenever possible.
Ask different parents for different parties to donate items so they won't have to donate to all parties!

*Some items that can be sent from parents;
- paper plates & napkins
- plastic ware and cups
- fruit (one parent can send in grapes, another strawberries etc.)
- drinks

*The money provided by PTA/PTO can be used for crafts, lunch if wanted, party favors and extra food for teacher and parent volunteers.

*Always remember that there are parents who can not get involved in their childs school due to having to work or younger siblings and if they contribute something to a party they often enjoy that.

*Make an agenda for your party.  Try to follow that agenda as close as possible.

*Don't forget the decorations!  You will be amazed at how a few inexpensive decorations can turn a plain classroom into party central!  ( tablecloths, balloons, streamers, props)
A great place to find these items are at the dollar store.

*MUSIC.....what's a party without music?  Don't have music, ask parents in your party newsletter if they have any!

*Last but not least....don't forget your camera!
