  • Friends are the ones you love.

They are the ones who make you smile.

Friends are your brothers and sisters.

They are your parents and their parents.

Friends are the special people in your life.

They are the special gifts of your life.

Friends are for caring, sharing, and giving.

They are for having fun, loving, and living.

Friends can be anyone or anything.

They can be everyone, including you and me.

I guess that I'll never know how happy a couple can be.

Alone, alone, apart and bereft of love.

What few flickers of joy that lighten the dark of isolation are as tangible as mirages and as brief as matches flaring.

Shall I ever soar high upon the wings of a fluttering heart?

A naive heart tainted by a deluded mind fools itself so many times until my soul cringes to journey through its own halls.

Ah well, such is my life and welcome are any to it.

I have a friend who makes me feel good.

Like an adult and yet like a kid at the same time.

I have a friend who makes me laugh,

Light and happy, free of malice or despair.

My friend is as wise as the owl,

Yet has an innocence like a newborn babe.

My friend has a special laugh,

Warm and infectious, but not loud or fractious.

I have a friend who is very special to me,

And that friend, my friend, is you.

"Broken heart boy don't come my way,

Keep your distance or I'll just say,

    'What did you expect?'

    You're just a nice guy that's all.

I don't really care if you fall.

You just don't have my respect."

    I would have loved you

    more than a friend

    But your heart was set

    on some other.

    To hear the anguish in

    my heart

    One would think my

    soul had been ripped apart.

    And maybe it had

    and maybe it hadn't

But the wounds of my heart

    were true enough.

    Curse my foolish heart,

    its naive way,

    Only brings me pain and

    sorrowful dismay.

If you would accept my heart

    then your's it would be,

To do with as you please,

hold it or set it free,

    Break it or mend it,

    anything you wish.

But you already possess my heart,

even if you don't know you carry it.

    The question now is

what will you do with it?

    Nothing is the answer then,

    and what a surprise.

But you can keep my heart

    because I don't need it.

It is better to have loved

    and lost than to never

    Have loved at all.

    You try it.

Though you may say I'm wrong

What I think still holds strong.

In you I see such a cutie

    Not just inner beauty.

    Kindness and humor abound,

    Interesting to be around,

Even Winnie the Pooh bear says so.

How do I see all this though?

Understand that you're my friend now,

Good or bad still my friend, that's how.

A heart of ice is what I have,

Like a sea of black is the soul I have.

Until the sun comes and melts my heart,

And the moon lightens my soul,

Pleasure and pain cannot touch me.

My heart of ice belongs to you

Kept in a jar of purest blue.

Until one day when your heart warms to me

And a drop of your love falls upon my icy heart

Then would my heart shudder and swell,

So much that the icy constraints break apart.

To think that I could be a part of your heart,

Was a foolish and doomed sentiment from the start.

Any hopes that I had died long ago,

Shredded and trashed by my insane ego.

How could anyone come to love me,

When I can never be happy with me?

Run away and never look back,

Lose my way and take the wrong track.

    But that's okay, no matter,

No one listened to my chatter.

I ran here and there, now I'm tired,

For my soul is weak and my mind is retired.

Now I go to sleep and pray I don't wake,

Because being a coward is a piece of cake.

Friend, you know that I will do what I can,

However I can, to make you happy and bright.

I love you as deeply and strongly as a friend can,

You are a part of my day and my night.

Your sad face hurts me to look upon,

Even when you don't let me see that face.

What would it take to lift your spirits?

What can I do to take that pain in your place?

Shall I take you to a carnival, with rides and games and things?

Cling to you on the scary rides, laugh with you on the silly ones.

Win some prizes playing the noisy games with those bottles and rings?

A tiger or two, a teddy bear or three, and fuzzy dice by the tons.

Then we should eat some good kine food, as only Hawaii can make.

Some chicken katsu, yummy, a bento on the side,

A little lomi lomi, mmmm, and how about some haupia cake.

Kalua pig, fresh ahi poki, ono, open wide.

When the day is over, and the time has come for goodbyes,

Let us turn our thoughts to tomorrow and the next sunrise.

I ask, 'What shall we do that next day my friend?'

You reply, 'I don't know.' and I say, 'Nor do I.'

I do know that whatever's around the bend,

We'll face it together, whether we crawl or fly.

My heart is like a diary, waiting to be written in.

My love is like a tidal wave, rising up inside of me

to swell my heart to overflowing.

The tears of loneliness are like the eternal elements

that raze mountains to the ground

    and quench a desert's thirst

    with an ocean's endlessness.

Oh for the love of a woman

with which to write the poems

of the world we live in.

Hoping for the hearts of friends

with whom to share my loving and caring.

Wishing for the tears of happiness

to wash away the tears of loneliness from a soul

bereft of a gentle companion's kiss,

a loving caress, a familiar fondness.
