Arriving at Our Offices here in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC

It's a bright sunny Saturday Spring Morning, and its not too crowded for our first visit and Tour, since most of the staff are out enjoying the weekend... Let's go in ~

Catching the Elevator UP in the Lobby

The Elevator will be empty today, since it is the weekend, but on a recent Friday night, Marcia Baham, a former Office Production aide, visited us here in the office, before she was to move to Utah, on the other side of the USA. Marcia's desk was right across from my Computer Console, and I not only Trained her on into an Intern Position as a Computer Systems Operator, but arranged for Management to loan her a Computer to take home. Marcia injured her back, and left the Company on disability, which is why she has a cane. Here Susie Jimenez, Kim Lien Phan and Darryl Carmichael and myself, all go down to meet her in the Lobby, and board the elevator to our office on the 2nd floor

Say "Hello" to April!

On the 2nd floor, arriving at my desk, here is April. April was a Security Officer with the Company who wanted to learn Computer Skills, in order to qualify for a better job position. She would come to me, before her shift started, and on her days off, for Training. I started teach April, by teaching her the Parts of the Computer (Hardware) and in no time at all, I had her taking Computers apart, and reassembling them! We then moved to Software Training, and after completing Windows 95/98 and Microsoft Word training, she is proudly holding up a copy of her Resume, which she just finished doing herself! Of course I was there to guide her through it, but she did all of the work! April got her Promotion shortly after this photo! "Congratulations, April!"

Meet Darryl, from our Electronic Graphics department. Usually you'll find Darryl around the corner at his transmission workstation, but he often stops by when he needs a tip or two for his Macintosh at home. Here he's sitting at my Computer Console and working on the Macintosh G4, which is the one I do all of the High Resolution Graphics and Scans on, as well as the Photos for the LA Times, the USNews & World Report Covers and the USN Internet Web Site. To his right is the PC which I work on at the same time! Working on 2 or 3 computer systems at the same time, is not as hard as You may think. This is on the other side of the wall where April was sitting, just down from my desk.

Here Ruth and Cal, take a moment out, to smile for the camera. Ruth usually comes over to my desk, when she is not busy in the Scanning Department, while Cal usually comes around when he's not busy, in our Composition Department, on the other side of the office. Ruth is learning a Real Estate software program, while Cal was learning the basics of Networking, to help at the School where his wife works. Both are valued staff for their skills!

And on around to Customer Service Dept. we have Autumn and Jessica Jeff chatting with one another * Autumn is the night Security Officer, that also worked with April. Jessica Jeff is currently studying Oracle DataBase software, having completed Microsoft Access and Excel training. Jessica Jeff is also helping the ICUG effort for plans to start a Training Center in Panama, her Home country.

Here's Xi Van Fleet, who started in the USN&WR Library, and came to me for Computer Training

Bianca, referred Xi Van Fleet to me, for computer training. Xi, is originally from Schezwan Province in China, PRC. She began coming down to my desk in the evenings, after she was off from work, and I began teach her Computer Basics. Xi, didn't really know what area of Computer Technology she wanted to follow, so I gave her a wide exposure to a number of software programs. She expressed an interest in Photography, so I suggested she might enjoy learning Adobe Photoshop, and that when an entry level opening became available she would be qualified to apply. Well, a number of months later, that did indeed happen, and Xi transferred to the Photo Library Department, where she used Photoshop in her new Position!

Cineplex Movies! There are 6 shows playing now, and it's only $3.00 admission per person! Popcorn?
