The connection to Jarratt

The Dugans were from Ireland, then moved to Scotland. We know that they lived in Strathblaine for two generations.
Some then went to Australia.
Margaret (Meg) went to the States, Agnes (Nan)and John came to Canada.
As a child, I remember Aunt Nan and Uncle George visiting, arriving from the west by train.
Aunt Meg lived in the U.S, and she visited as well. Neither of these two ladies lost thier accents the way John did.
John was a town clerk in Charlton Ont., a store owner in Queensville Ont., and farm owner at Jarratt.
His wife, Nellie Burnham, was the scholteacher at Charlton, where they met.
Joe Burnham, her father and her brother Cliff, were land owners in Charlton. This was prior to the fire that destroyed the town.
Nells only sister was Alma Pearl who married Ross Nichols. They farmed at Victoria Square north of Toronto. They had three sons.
Cliff had two sons Cecil and Vernon who both died young, and one daughter, Myrtle. She has one son.
Joe Burnham's wife was Mary Onetta Holmes.
Her father, Richard Holmes was born in Grassmere England.
He settled at Adtrea north of Orillia Ontario.
In 1912, Joe Burnham purchased land at Jarratt, and in 1919, Cliff did the same, buyng the adjoining farm.
These were the two Switzer properties.
Joe's wife Mary held the founding meeting of the Jarratt-Coulson Womens Institute at her house, and was a lifelong member, as was her daughter Nell Dugan, and grandaughter Isobel Beard.
Nell and Jack Dugan purchased the property that had been settled by James Cook and Sarah Beard in 1832.
Nell and Jack's daughter Isobel, married James Beard. James and Isobel later purchased/inherited this land.
