PUBLICITY 1.Contest year is April 1 through March 31. 2. State Affiliate must publish at least four issues during the contest year to be eligible for the newsletter contest. Best Single Issue, Best Feature Story-Humor, and Best Feature Story-Human Interest participants are not subject to the four-issue requirement. 3. Area judges must receive the newsletters for judging by April 10. 4. Contest participants must be serving, or have served, under a permanent appointment in a County office and must be Members, either regular or associate, in good standing, in NASCOE. Employees serving under a temporary appointment are eligible to participate in the newsletter contest providing the membership requirement is met. 5. The State affiliation name and month of publication must appear on the front or back of each newsletter. 6. Feature articles must show identification of author (name and county) and position held in the County office. 7. Contest categories for awards are: Best Newsletter; Best Newsletter-Honorable Mention; Best Single Issue; Best Feature Story-Humor; Best Feature Story-Human Interest; Best Website. Selection of Judges 1. Area Publicity Chairperson shall serve as judges for the NASCOE Newsletter Contest. An alternate judge shall be appointed by the NASCOE Executive Committee. 2. Area Executive Committeepersons shall appoint from three to five judges and an alternate judge from their respective area. These judges will be responsible for judging the newsletters from their respective areas. 3. Contest judges will not judge the newsletters from their own state affiliation as it is the alternate judges' responsibility to judge those newsletters. Responsibilities of Judges 1. Judging for Best Newsletter, Best Single Issue, Best Website, Best Feature Story-Humor, and Best Featur Story-Human Interest will be on a point system (see NASCOE Newsletter Contest Scoresheets) All judges'scoresheets will be submitted to the respective Area Publicity Chairperson for tallying. The newsletter and feature stories receiving the highest newsletter scoring second place in the Best Newsletter category will receive Honorable Mention. 2. Area winners will be notified by the Area Publicity Chairperson and the winner will be responsible for timely submitting the newsletters and features to the National judges for judging using the same scoresheets. The newsletters and features receiving the hightest points whill be declared the National winner in each category. 3. Area Publicity Chairperson shall notify the National Judging Team of the Area Winners Schedule of Events April 1 - March 31 -----------------Contest Year April 10 -------------------------------State Newsletter to Area Publicity Chairperson April 25 ------------------------------- Area Judges send scoresheets to Area Publicity Chairpersons May 10 ------------------------------- Area Chairperson notify Area winners. Area winners immediately send newsletters to National Judges (these are the Area Publicity Chairs.) June 1 --------------------------------- National Judges complete judging and send scoresheets to the National Publicity Chairperson. June 5 ---------------------------------- Notification to National winners. |
