The BHStB was established in 1883. It had a network of 697.4km, the lines of which were opened as follows:
Austria-Hungary formally incorporated Bosnia into itself on 5.10.1908, and on 2.12.1908, the BHStB became the Bosnisch-Herzegowinische Landesbahnen (BHLB).
