Hunter was TV's version of Clint Eastwood's violent give-em-no-quarter big screen cop Dirty Harry, slightly toned down for the home screen. Detective Rick Hunter (Fred Dryer) muscled and sneered his way through a wide range of back-alley and uptown cases in L.A. with his beautiful and brassy partner, Dee Dee McCall (Stepfanie Kramer), known around the squad room as "The Brass Cupcake". Their fatuous superiors did not appreciate Hunter's strong arm tactics, but viewers did, making this one of the most successful cop shows of the 1980s.
