Delivering for the Community!

Letters of Support

From Brendan O'Connor, Federal Member for Burke

It has been a pleasure to be able to work with such a dedicated Councillor, Ann Potter. Ann has shown commitment and compassion in all facets of her involvement with the community.

When Ansett Airlines collapsed, Ann took up the cause for the many Sunbury families that were hardest hit. It has now been established that Sunbury was the hardest hit area in Australia. Ann was part of a delegation that went to Canberra to meet with Government and Opposition members to explain how hard the area has been hit.

When the Sunbury Private Hospital decided to close its Maternity Unit, it was Ann again that took up the cause to try and get Mayne Health to reverse their decision. Ann continues to lobby for the Hospital to reverse its decision and is the only local councillor who sees health and community services as a major priority.

Since I have been elected the Member for Burke in 2001, I have had numerous dealings with Ann and must say that her professionalism and thoughtfulness are second to none. She has always acted in the best interest of her community.

Ann introduced me to the Sunbury Street Surfer Bus as she is a regular volunteer. This bus is a "Youth Centre on Wheels" and it is a cause that Ann holds close to her heart.

Most recently Ann assisted a local family when their daughter was stranded in the USA after having been deemed by the US authorities that she had breached her visa conditions.

As the local Mayor of Hume, Ann has increased Sunbury's influence and profile in the City of Hume. She has sought to encourage economic progress having regard to environmental considerations. She will never be accused of being in the pocket of the big developers at the expense of the people of Sunbury.

I urge you to vote for the "people's councillor" as she is out there on the ground, listening then acting.

From Joanne Duncan State Member for Macedon

Working in a co-operative manner with Local Government representatives is critical to delievering the best outcomes for our community. Ann is committed to Sunbury and working in co-operation with the Bracks Government in achieving great outcomes for Sunbury.

Ann has a deep passion for community safety and was instrumental in achieving changes to the design of pedestrian access at the Macedon St bridge in response to residents concerns.

Ann is also passionate about issues affecting young people, being the mother of two young children, she is in touch with their needs and concerns. She fought hard to keep the Sunbury Youth Centre in the town centre and has been a dedicated worker on the Sunbury Street Surfer bus.

I know Ann will continue to be a hardworking and effective representative for Sunbury and I look forward to continuing to work with Ann and the Hume City Council in the future.
