First Letter to Residents of Jackson Ward

Dear Resident

The upcoming Hume City Elections will be held by postal ballot. You will receive ballot papers in late February and voting closes on 14th March at 6pm.

I was elected Mayor in 2002, and have been supported by a strong and stable team of Councillors. We have provided leadership, to bring about a change in direction with new vision and priorities. This I promised you three years ago.

Three years ago I committed to providing open and accountable processes and ethical and decisive leadership, in partnership with our community. This has been achieved by the extensive consultation processes undertaken prior to decisions being made, about our community.

Major progress has been made over these past 3 years. Achievements include:

  • Hume winning City Pride Award for 2003;
  • Redevelopment of the Sunbury Youth Centre;
  • Construction of the Sunbury Skate Park;
  • Successfully lobbying for the duplication of the Macedon Street Bridge;
  • Enhanced Health and Community Care services, provided to the aged and disabled.

Much has been achieved, but there is more to achieve. Locally, I will continue the priorities of footpath maintenance, road maintenance and community safety. I will also undertake to further improve our parks by providing more trees and more playground equipment.

My aim is to provide an enhanced Children's Services Centre which will incorporate Maternal and Child Health, Long Day Care and a Pre-School under the "one roof" in Jackson Ward.

I am also committed to the redevelopment of the Sunbury Aquatic Centre and the extension of Boardman Stadium. I will aim to have these projects completed sooner rather than later.

For the past 13 years, I have lived in Jackson Ward, therefore, I have a full understanding of the needs, vision and hopes of the Jackson Ward community.

I have always been approachable and provided equal representation to all residents of Sunbury. I believe that a councillor should be approachable, at all times, and as such I will continue to LISTEN and ACT on your behalf.

It has been an honour to be YOUR representative on Hume City Council. I seek your support in the upcoming election so I can continue to work for further improvements in Sunbury.

Yours sincerely

Cr Ann Potter, Jackson Ward
Mayor, Hume City Council
