How I installed Scrabble on my Windows XP Computer

Apparently since Windows ME came out, some of the players have had problems installing and playing the CD over the internet. This problem seemed to continue with problems with Windows XP users also.

My most difficult problem was getting connected to the internet with my Cable Modem. The network/internet Wizard did not work for me and I ended up manually having to set it up.

I also got the patch for Scrabble II on my computer for future use. See my Patch page for Scrabble II or my Patch page for Scrabble 1/orginal

After some research on-line, I found that the main problem is that the Scrabble CD needs to be installed in the "Administrator"/"main" logon.

Basically I installed Scrabble II into the main computer logon when the computer comes up. I did a little research and it looks like if you install it under different names on the computer there are problems. So I didn't create any new account names (yet), just the one required. I installed Scrabble II (full install); turned off computer and restarted it; Then I opened up the Scrabble game to make sure it worked, then I turned off the computer again; then I installed patch and turned off computer and restarted; everything one step at a time, and restarting each time.

Also, another player contacted me and said that he took his orignal Scrabble CD to a store and loaded it on one of the XP machines. He stated that XP automatically started Scrabble in the 256 color mode and worked fine for him. He didn't try getting on the internet since he was in a store.

Once Scrabble is installed in the wrong account name, and Scrabble is not working there may be problems un-installing it. I would suggest first un-installing it from the main computer logan first, then try the indiviudal acount name.

Other related XP problems:

Upon setting up my other hardware on my new XP computer, I only had a problem with my Scanner. Since my scanner was only two years old, I thought I would not have a problem. I had to download 2 files from the scanner website. One program to take out old driver (it specified you had to be in main account name or "administrator"/main login. Then another program for installing the new driver for my scanner.

Although apparently this does not work with Scrabble; XP has features for using old software called: "Run with different Credentials" Go to the program icon/shortcut; then "Right Click" and go to "advanced" properties. There should be option for "different Credientials".

Internet Gaming Zone Lobbies:

If you go to Zone and look for Scrabble lobbies, you will have a difficult time finding them. They will take you to http://www.games.com.

Theses links will take you directly to the Scrabble Lobbies. You can sign-up from their if you have not already. (its free)
