Goku is a saiyjin, a race a aliens which live to fight. As a kid Goku, or Kakarot was sent to the planet Earth to kill all living things, but fell and had a lot of damage done to his head. after this fall he became good instead of always trying to kill people he was playfull. Goku started competing in martial arts tournaments and lost in his first shot and won basically every other time he competed in it. Goku becomes a super-saiyajin when Freeza kills Krillan and nearly kills Piccolo. He ends up going SSJ, SSJ2, SSj3 and SSJ4. He also has the ability to fuse with Vegeta to become either Vegitto or Gogeta.Goku has a son called Son Gohan who also becomes a fighter, he ends up having the potential to be the strongest fighter on earth. Goku's friends are Krillan, Tien, Yamcha and a few other people.
Vegeta is also a saiyan like Goku. He first appears one year after Raditz saga, when he does show up he doesnt fight till Goku kills his partner Nappa. Its a great fight but in the end the good guys win, but Vegeta survives.Vegeta becomes a super-saiyjin when he trains under 400 times gravity and stills doesnt become one, he ends up reaching SSJ!, SSJ2 and SSJ4. He has a very high ego and always goes out of his way to out do Goku. Hes always acting mean but when he died against Freeza he started to cry, after this he changes the after a while he becomes good and fights along the Z fighters against Cell and Buu and everyone else. Vegeta marries Bulma and has two kids Trunks and Bra.
Son Gohan is Goku's son, he is always getting forced to work and work and thats it by his mum, no social life. But after the age of about 9 he starts to sneak out of the house when his mum isnt looking. anyway Gohan is the strongest fighter on earth but no one no's it, even Gohan. He is a Hybrid(half saiyan, half human) this somehow gives him a massive power up, and when someone hurts one of his family members he goes skitz and kills everyone, for example Garlic Junior.Gohan reaches SSJ2 against Cell and thats the highest level he gets to, but he is the strongest non-transformed fighter. Gohan gets super powers when he gets to the age of around 17 and becomes a super hero called great-saiya man. He ends up marrying Videl, Mr.Satan's daughter. His kids name is Pan. She too becomes a Z fighter in the later parts of the cartoon.
Son Goten is Goku's second son he is born after the Cell game. His best friend is Trunks, he besomes a super-saiyjin at a very young age, like Trunks. When he fuses with Trunks they make Gotenks which reaches SSJ3, at the Buu saga. But by himself he only reaches SSJ2. Unlike Gohan he looks just like Goku until he cuts his hair, he also acts like Chibi(kid)Goku. He is very playful and active, later he becomes a lady's man.
