Summary of Product

PowerDVD is a high-quality, pure-software DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) player which brings high-quality movies and karaoke into the multimedia PC. It can playback high resolution DVD titles or MPEG-2 files with MPEG-2 video and Dolby AC-3 audio. In addition, it provides a complete set of commands for navigation such that not only basic operations (such as play, fast forward, fast backward, stop and pause) are supported, advanced features such as multi-angle switching, multi-language and multi-subtitle selection, and parental control are also provided. With its high-quality audio/video performance on Pentium II -based PCs, no hardware MPEG-II board is required, saving a significant cost for users. Furthermore, PowerDVD can playback non-CSS DVD titles as well as CSS DVD titles of all region codes.

Benefits

Computer enthusiasts who love to watch DVD movies will benefit most from this software. Power DVD has a quality to rival home theater systems. It supports different types of sound systems and does not use a lot of the computer's resources and power. It is a good alternative to buying a DVD player that would cost much more money as long as your computer meets the software's system requirements and have a good sound and graphics card.

Power DVD is an ideal solution for building home theaters and digital video centers right from today's mainstream computers. It offers breakthrough technologies to stream and manage high-quality, media-rich contents on the Internet.

PowerDVD is compliant to the following standards:

Setup, installation, configuration, and customization and documentation:

Since there are no Retail Distributors here in the USA, to purchase and acquire the software one has to download it from an online retailer site. Once the download is complete the only thing to do is install it like any other downloaded software programs. The software comes with its own online documentation and help features. Its shows the user a step by step configuration and customization if necessary. The online documentation and online help does not need to be connected to the Internet for it to function. It shows how to contact service support incase the user needs help that the online help cannot provide. It does this by having a list of phone numbers to contact, a list of fax number and different web and e-mail hyperlinks to follow.

In addition, the company's website provides a downloadable documentation in PDF format. It comes in different languages to provide help for customers in different countries. The software comes with an uninstall feature just incase the user wants to restore the computer to the pre-installation form or to restore the systems registry. The software also includes a small program that performs a system diagnostics if there is something wrong with the software.

    User Interface and user friendliness:

Power DVD packed with many features that makes it user friendly and easy to use and navigate. These features includes:

Tool Bar Navigator is a convenient drop-down toolbar for additional video playback control. PowerDVD 3.0 lets users control the playback of the DVD title with a multitude of options--fast or slow forward and backward, step forward (by multiple frames), and step backward. There are two playback modes for widescreen titles: view either in pan-scan mode (full screen view on a 4:3 screen) or letterbox. With i-Power, users can activate the PowerDVD desktop portal page. The desktop portal page offers useful links to DVD resources such as up-to-date news on the DVD industry and technology, a DVD movie database, and places to share discussions and forums with other DVD enthusiasts.

    Warranty and Customer support:

The return policies depend on the online retailer it was purchased from. The return policies are typically 30 days after purchase date. Cyberlink has a dedicated customer support online website for the product. The website includes links to help customer find answers or an e-mail link for customers who want to ask questions. In addition, the website also provides customers with links to downloadable software updates for the product.

The website could be found at http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/cs/support/index.jsp

    Summary and General Recommendations:

In conclusion PowereDVD is a software program that offers maximum video and audio playback entertainment on the PC. It comes complete with numerous customizable video/audio controls that can deliver the highest quality viewing and listening experience. It provides a complete set of commands for navigation such that not only basic operations are supported, advanced features such as multi-angle switching, multi-language and multi-subtitle selection, and parental control are also provided. Furthermore, PowerDVD can playback non-CSS DVD titles as well as CSS DVD titles of all region codes. Lastly, I highly recommend the product to PC useres who also like to watch DVD movies. The benefits derived from the software adds extra value to the PC. The price might be a little too steep for some but the software's added value and features are well worth it and would last as long as the PC itself.
