Biography

Carl is definitely a special player.  A power-hitting switch hitter with speed is highly prized in big leagues. In the summer of 2003, the Chicago White Sox recognized his value and added him to their roster as they made their run at the American League Central.  The Sox brought him over from Texas to give them more punch in the lineup.

As a member of the Houston Astros in 1999, Everett hit a career-high .325 (seventh in the National League) with 25 home runs, 108 RBIs and 27 steals in 123 games. Traded to Boston after the season, Carl had a banner year in his first season with the Red Sox, leading the team in home runs (34), RBIs (108) and stolen bases (11). That season, Carl played in his first All-Star game.

Though limited to 105 games and 374 at bats last year with Texas, Carl was still fifth on the Rangers in home runs and tied for fourth in RBIs. He also tied for sixth in total bases and was sixth in hits. A first-round draft choice of the New York Yankees in 1990, Carl was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 1992 expansion draft. Carl spent two years in the Marlins organization before spending three years with the New York Mets.
