Health Science Hockey League

Welcome to the Official Web Site of the Health Science Hockey League (HSHL)!!

UPDATED!! The HSHL began operations in the year 2000 on Larkhall Street in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. As demand for a larger playing area increased, the street hockey games were moved to the parking lot of the Health Science Centre, a hospital on the campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland.  The most westerly lot is used, and usually after dark. However, on rare occasions, the league takes its show on the road (If games could not go ahead at the Health Science, they would move to the Newfoundland Power parking lot) and even holds a summer league in Clarenville, Newfoundland. The first season consisted of a series of exhibition games and no statistics or records were recorded.

Season Two of the HSHL saw the league in full swing.  Bryan Green scored over 100 goals, Joe Mercer was a sniper - but also a sound defenseman at the same time.  We saw two rookies come to the league and impress - Justin Stoyles and Luke Harris.  Cory Pike was an awesome defensive presence in any game and Devin Baxendale would sometimes actually stand on his head.  Steven Strang was an overall dynamo in the areas of scoring, defence and even between the pipes.  The second year saw the first all-star game and awards handed out.  They are as follows:

MVP Of The League: Bryan Green
Best Overall Player (Offence/Defence/Goaltending): Steven Strang
Best Defensive Player: Joe Mercer
Rookie of the Year: Justin Stoyles
Most Improved Player: Cory Pike
Best Goaltender: Devin Baxendale

Skills MVP: Cory Pike
All-Star Series MVP: Justin Stoyles

Season 3 kicked off in September of 2002, though the league suffered in the first few months, it has now blossomed into what it was in year 2.  Check all the links above for stats and news from year 3 of the HSHL.  Remember, if you don't swear, throw sticks, or insult someone's mother - you ain't playin' in the HSHL!
