"Introduction"

              Higher education and research in chemical sciences
     is becoming out of reach of  many younger aspirants. Due to 
     non-availability of adequate  financial   resources  during
     graduate / post graduate programmes or lack    of immediate 
     placement opportunities in research assignments after post- 
     graduation, they are lost to lesser or non-productive areas.
     If a timely financial incentive is made  available  to such
     students, many of them would prove an asset to the society.
     For providing financial assistance  to  deserving  students
     for   higher  education,  with cash  proceeds of GOEL award 
     (1997) to Prof. Harjit Singh and a  befitting  contribution 
     from Guru  Nanak  Dev  University,  Amritsar,  India,  the  
     “Professor Harjit Singh  Foundation  for    Promotion    of 
      Chemical Sciences”  has been established  in Department of
      Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The trust 
      of the foundation  is  entitled  to  utilize only interest
      income accrued from principal collections of the funds by
      the foundation.

"Objectives"

     The objectives of the Foundation are:  
     (1) To provide fellowships to the students, who have passed
         M.Sc. / M.Sc. (Hons. School), for carrying out research
         in chemical sciences in  Guru  Nanak  Dev   University,
         Amritsar. The duration of scholarship(s)  will  be  six 
         months in general and in no case more than a year.  The
         scholarship will be discontinued from  the  date,   the 
         recipient gets  fellowship from any other agency. 
     (2) To provide financial assistance to students who deserve
         but cannot afford graduate / post graduate  studies  in 
         chemical sciences.
     (3) To organize short courses or invited lectures for state 
         of art exposition in chemical sciences. etc.
     (4)  To undertake any ot her  befitting   activity  such as
         finacial   support   for   attending  any  conferences,
         workshops etc..

"Donations"

          In order to initiate worthwhile activity, the foundation
   requires reasonable pool of funds. For ensuring relevance  of
   this activity to changing needs and for meeting future higher
   financial needs due to rising costs, the principal amount has
   also got to be kept growing.
         For this genuine cause of promotion of chemical sciences,
   we invite the individuals especially the old students of this
   department, the  chemical/pharmaceutical industries and other
   institutions who are beneficiaries of  chemical  sciences  to
   contribute liberally to the foundation so that the activities
   of  the  foundation become  more  and   more  useful  to  the
   society. The contributions can be made in the  form of cash / 
   cheque/draft in f avour of “Professor Harjit Singh Foundation
   For Promotion of Chemical Sciences” payable at  Amritsar  and
   should be sent to the chairman / secretary of the foundation.
