I Wanted Wings

I wanted wings till I got the gol-darn things;
Now I don't want them any more.
Oh, they taught me how to fly,
Then they brought me here to die.
I've had a belly full of war.
You can leave all the Zeros
To the gol-darn heroes,
For distinguished flying crosses
Never compensate for losses.
I wanted wings till i got the gol-darn things;
Now I don't want them any more.

I don't want to fly in a bloody PBY;
That's for the eager, not for me.
I'll not trust to luck
To be picked up by a Duck
After I'm shot into the sea,
For I'd rather be a bellhop
Than a flyer on a flat-top
With my hand around a bottle
Not around a gol-darn throttle.
I wanted wings till I got the gol-darn things;
Now I don't want them any more.

I'll take the dames
While the rest go down in flames;
I've no desire to be burned.
Air combat has romance,
But it makes me wet my pants;
That's for the others, I have learned.
You can leave the Mitsubishis
To the simple sons-a-bishis,
For I'd rather have a woman
Than get shot up in a Grumman.
I wanted wings till I got the gol-darn things;
Now...I don't want them...any more.
