MAPS was formed by retired employees of Marine Atlantic on March 23 of 1998 in North Sydney, NS. It was formed to try to help the betterment of the retired employees, a meeting place for old friends to talk about the good times when they worked. As the result of the first meeting, election of officers took place, then a constitution and by-laws were drawn up and voted on by the membership.
