On the corner of Middle and Pleasant Streets, the site of the present (perhaps 1974? see Dorris Hough's Ledger, pages 201-209) New Bedford Hotel.  Rufus A. Soule lived there when first married.

 THOMAS HOWARD2 SOULE (Thomas3) was born in Belchertown February 22, 1810.  Thomas died April 17, 1900 in New Bedford, MA, at 90 years of age.
 He married in Nantucket, MA, May 5, 1833, MARGARET ALBERTSON2 DUNHAM (George3), who  was born in Mattapoisett April 10, 1810.  Margaret died July 16, 1879 in New Bedford, MA, at 69 years of age.
      Thomas Howard Soule and Margaret Albertson Dunham had the following children:
        i.  WILLIAM1 was born in Mattapoisett March 15, 1836.  William died May 30, 1888 at 52 years of age.  He married ELIZABETH SAYRE.  Elizabeth was born in of Nantucket.
    +  1  ii.  RUFUS ALBERTSON was born March 16, 1839.
        iii.  HENRY WARREN was born in New Bedford, MA September 20, 1841.  Henry died July 2, 1863 at 21 years of age. at the battle of Gettysburg.
        iv.  THOMAS HOWARD was born in New Bedford, MA November 15, 1844.  Thomas died November 1926 in Hyannis, MA, at 82 years of age.  He married MARTHA NESMITH.  Martha was the daughter of Carver Parker Nesmith and Elenor Williams.
        v.  MARY ELVIRA was born in New Bedford, MA July 15, 1850.  Mary died March 16, 1941 at 90 years of age.  She married ANTHONY D. HALL 1872.

1.  RUFUS ALBERTSON1 SOULE (Thomas Howard2, Thomas3), son of Thomas Howard Soule and Margaret Albertson Dunham, was born in Mattapoisett, MA March 16, 1839.  Rufus died January 9, 1913 in New Bedford, at home, at 73 years of age.
  He married SUSAN CRAM NESMITH August 28, 1859.  Susan was born in Brooks, ME March 11, 1839.  Susan was the daughter of Carver Parker Nesmith and Elenor Williams.  Susan died February 18, 1921 in New Bedford, MA, at 81 years of age.

      Rufus Albertson Soule and Susan Cram Nesmith had the following children:

        i.  MARGARET HOWARD was born in New Bedford, MA May 3, 1862.  Margaret died July 13, 1955 in Vineyard Haven, MA, at 93 years of age.  She married GARRY DENEUVILLE HOUGH in New Bedford, MA, October 25, 1888. For more photos, go to the Hough page.
        ii.  LOIS MADELINE was born in New Bedford, MA February 18, 1870.  She married ALEXANDER THOMPSON SMITH in New Bedford, MA, 542 County St., June 14, 1894.
        iii.  RUFUS ALBERTSON was born in New Bedford, MA April 28, 1877.  He married FLORENCE RENNE in Calais, ME, June 22, 1904.

Then they lived at 18 Campbell St, New Bedford, which was purchased by Rufus A Soule before 1870.

Later, after a period of boarding, they lived at 163 Middle St, about the middle of the block above Pleasant St.  The site is now (perhaps 1974?) also covered by the New Bedford Hotel. Garry Hough and Margaret Soule were married in the Middle Street house on Oct 1888. Hilda Hough was born there on August 31, 1890. Next door lived Thomas H.Soule, Sr., where Lois was born in 1870.
