14 mm³ to m³

Start by drawing this:

The number of vertical lines doesn’t matter; they are just there to separate the numbers and respective units.

14 mm³

Begin by writing 14 mm³ in the top left box.

This is the number you are given.  Then ask yourself what you are trying to figure out.  In this case the units you want is m³.  So to obtain m³ you need to convert mm³ to m³.

How many millimeters are in 1 meter ?

(1 m

(1000 mm

14 mm³

OR

How many meters are in 1 millimeter…THIS IS LIKE THE ONE YOU DID WITH ME…..

(.001 m) ³

(1 mm) ³

14 mm³

The key to these problems is remembering to cube the number and the units.  Notice that when you get your answer it should be in m³ because the mm³ units ‘cancel out.’  For example…

                        10 mm³ / 10 mm³ = 1    there are not units because 10 mm³ goes into 10 mm³ 1 time.  By canceling out in the line diagram above you do the following:

(.001 m) ³

(1 mm

                                                                                                            leaving just m³

Now for some problems….you can solve them in pretty much the same way as the examples but the last few will be a little harder.  Do all of these and think about and observe each one and how you are doing it.  The more you practice the easier it will become.  Make sure you understand the concepts and aren’t just going through the motions.

1. Convert 100 mm to cm

2. Convert 100 cm³ to m³

3. Convert 100 mL³ to L³   (liters)

4. Convert 10 mm³ to m³

5. Convert .01 mm³ to m³

6. Convert 10 cm² to m²

7. Convert 10 mm² to cm²

8. Convert .1 m³ to cm³

9. Convert .1 m³ to mm³

10. Convert  10 m² to mm²

I will email you the answers tomorrow. Make sure you do them carefully and  don’t make careless mistakes - don’t rush learning.

As for the cross multiplication problems, here is an example.

6    =    9

7          P

Remember the name “CROSS MULTIPLICATION”

9x7=63                        6xP=6P

so our equation turns into -------   <63 = 6P ……now solve for P…..6 times some number gives you 63…so divide 63 by 6 to figure out what that number is…

P = 10.5

Here are some problems…

1. 9/11 = 13/x

2. 8/9 = 7/x

3. 1/x = 5/6

4. 3/x = 7/10

5. x/4 = 2/3

6. x/9 = 2/19

7. 5/9 = x/11

And just for practice…

1. 11/12 = 9x

2. ½ = 7x

3. 1/8 = 3x

Good luck on these bro…hard work pays off.  You’ll feel better once you know these.
