Information Center Topic: HEARD SIG (Health promotion Education Alternatives, Research & Development Special Interest Group), Occupational Therapy, and Other Allied Health Professions, and Occupational Therapy Research.

Hello, Fellow Allied Health Professionals, OT's, and Others! Welcome!

I am an occupational therapist who is currently working on a Ph.D. in occupational therapy at TWU. I attended the 1997 AOTA conference in Orlando, Florida, and came back with the following information about the possible development of a Wellness SIG (Special Interest Group) in AOTA.

The concept of creating a SIG for those OT's who are interested in the use of "alternative" and/or "complementary" care techniques as OT's was discussed at the Wellness Strategies Exchange at the recent AOTA Conference in Orlando, Florida, on April 12, 1997. The name HEARD (Health promotion Education Alternatives, Research & Development) was suggested by one of the OT's at the Wellness Strategies Exchange and was accepted by the others present as a working title for the SIG.

To those OT's (OTRs and COTAs) interested in formulating the HEARD SIG for the AOTA, what is needed is a minimum of 750 signatures from OTRs and COTAs from a total of at least 30 states.

For more information about HEARD SIG, please contact:
