Breezy & blustery all day long. SNOW! 5th: A steady snow began overnight and continued through the morning, tapered to flurries by late this evening. A total of 7.0" fell--believe it or not that's the most in one day since March 14, 1999. Water equivalent of this snow .84". 7th: A cold early morning low of 8F. Oddly it was warmer in the mountains and much colder in the valleys to the S & E. ICE! 11th: Freezing rain began about 6am and ended by noon, total .55" fell, about 1/4" of ice accumulated on everything, minor damage in area, storm was worse in central/eastern MD. WINTRY MIX 13th: Rain began just before noon. Changed to sleet then wet snow during the mid-late afternoon hours. A total of 1.0" fell before tapering off about 5:30pm. Drizzle and fog through the evening. Total liquid precipitation .59". 14th: Drizzle and light rain overnight, mixed with wet snow late morning, no accumulation, light rain showers ended by late afternoon, some peaks of sun. Total precip .10" today. 19th: Cloudy and relatively mild today, a few peaks of weak sun. Light rain began about 10pm and became moderate toward midnight (.08" by midnight)... 20th: Rain overnight not as much as expected, only .20" more fell midnight-4am. Cloudy mild & windy this morning, temp reached 50 F, partly cloudy and breezy this afternoon. 21st: A relatively mild first day of winter but felt colder with gusty W-NW winds 20-30+ mph. 22nd: Still windy & mild with sprinkles all day, shower about 5:30pm produced .07" rain. WINDS CONTINUE TO HOWL 23rd: Very windy overnight and through mid-afternoon with gusts 30-40 mph. Large dead tree blew over in our yard. Winds calmed down this evening. MIRACLE ON HENRY DRIVE - A WHITE CHRISTMAS! 24th: Became overcast overnight. Light snow began this afternoon about 2pm. Mainly light snow through the evening mixed with sleet at times, total by midnight 2.0". 25th: Heavy snow 5-7am with about 3.5" falling in just two hours. Lighter snow mixed with sleet & freezing rain at times continued through 10:30am. Total on ground by then 6.5" (4.5" since midnight). Became windy with flurries all afternoon and evening, additional accumulation 0.3" although about an inch melted before that fell. Total snow for day 4.8", and for the storm 6.8" with .87" water equivalent. What a Merry Christmas! 26th: Flurries continued overnight & through the morning but no more measurable accumulation. 28th: Some flurries 9-10pm but only a light dusting. 31st: A mild ending to 2002 with a high of 50 F. Light rain 10:45pm-midnight .03" by midnight.
