The Upstate New York Hosta Society
"Hosta Sitter Program"

The purpose of this "Hosta Sitter" Program is to provide yet another benefit to our dues paying members, and to promote the purposes of the Upstate New York Hosta Society which are "to foster and promote knowledge of, and interest in, the genus Hosta; to encourage the introduction of the genus into cultivation, and the development of new and improved varieties; and to promote education and research about the genus".
The details of this program are simply that the member agrees to nurture and protect his/her selected plant, until which time it is large enough to propagate and return the divisions to the Society at their next regularly scheduled "Hosta Sitter" session.  For some varieties plants may be able to be divided the very next growing season, but we realize some other varieties may take several seasons to reach a propagatable size!  Divisions must be potted and clearly labeled.  Members must bring ALL divisions to the meeting so we can see how prolific (or Not!) the variety is.  Members will then be given the opportunity to select one division to keep as his/her own personal property (if they so desire) as a Thank You for all the TLC provided over the year(s) in preparation for propagation and return to the Society for distribution as "Hosta Sitter Plants" again.  This will provide members with the opportunity to have access to plant varieties that are in short supply or unreachable in costs due to current budget constraints.

The "Hosta Sitter" agrees to provide periodic updates on the progress of his/her plant as requested at Society meetings.

Members are welcome to utilize the pollen from these "Hosta Sitter Plants" in any manner desired, but they agree to the fact that any mutational sports are the sole property of the Upstate New York Hosta Society for its use and will be given to the nearest Society officer at the members earliest convenience.

Only current members of the Upstate New York Hosta Society may participate in this program.  If at any time the member chooses to become inactive in the Society by not paying Annual Dues, they are required to return their "Hosta Sitter Plant" to the nearest Society officer.
