I just want to say that I have been a fan of The Carpenters for many years. Karen had an angelic voice that no one in the music business could compare to. The sad part is that she was not happy with herself and this caused her untimely death. If I had the chance to say something to her, I would just like to say, "You had a God given talent that not many people are given in their lifetime and just be thankful for this and use it to make other people happy and don't try to conform to what others think you should be or look like, live your life to the fullest and you will be a happy person". Karen was taken away too soon but at least we have her music which keeps her memory alive and well. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts with you.

The Carpenters - how Karen touched me with her voice
Karen's and Richard's music is forever a part of pop music. I am a 26 year old fan who has adored their music for 18 years - they are my all time favourite. Compared with many of the bands nowadays, they still stand out as a professional, highly polished and very entertaining act.
The fact they were brother and sister intrigues me, especially knowing this had to do with the closeness and brilliant teamwork and product that resulted from the duo.
The first song I fell in love with was Those Good Old Dreams when I was 8 years old. It was sometime in 1982. I was sitting in the passenger seat of my mum's Datsun (with my Dad driving) while we were returning home to Henderson from a suburb called Ponsonby. Just as we descended the hill towards the wharf from Ponsonby Road, the song came on the radio. Karen's voice was very clear and friendly, I was so taken back with it. If that wasn't enough, nothing could have prepared me when I heard the tight voice harmonies in the chorus and the 2nd verse. From then on, I have been a devout fan, collecting LPs, CDs and taping programs on them from TV. It was the Carpenters that triggered my life long love for music.
I have to admit that the main attraction for me about them was the background vocals, I thought and still think it was so cleverly done by them . It was always fun for me to try and figure out which parts Richard and Karen sang. One example is the part in We've Only Just Begun where they sing "We've Only Begun" in the first verse and then Karen continues to sing "Before the rising sun" - just pure talent, for both of them to use the breadth of their singing ranges to produce such a beautiful sound. And to think that the sound was used without any vibrato, shows that both worked well and responded to Richards arrangements well. The vocals along with compenents in the instrumental background played a big part to making their "sound" - which perfectly complimented Karens voice
Karen as a lead singer is just super. She will always be my top of the list favourite singer - her playing drums attracted me to her as well. It fascinates me that at the age of 16 when it apparently all happened for her, she was able to make her drumming a hallmark of her life. By the way she drums, one can tell she loved drumming and anyone with a sense of rhythm can appreciate where she's coming from.
She was a very talented lady.
As the song "Superstar" goes - Long ago and oh so far away... and STILL since Karen's passing, their music has grown in stature and cherished by millions over the world. There will never be any band like the Carpenters - if anyone should try and recreate that special sound they should be treated like trespassers. Their sound was so unique - and I think they were they only brother and sister that made it to the top. I still admire them for their musicality, professionalism and cool laid back personalities. They didn't have to dress in the latest fashions to become as successful as they did. They were 100% natural and I commend them for it. Just imagine if Karen was still alive... they would have produced more and more hits. I think she would have to be one of the greatest female singers who ever lived. Together they built music to last through generations - what a great legacy she left behind.

Several years ago back in Santiago, Chile, I paid a friend of my brother's to paint a heart with the following statement:

A SONG FOR YOU
CARPENTERS
....AN ETERNAL STAR
WHO LIVED ON EARTH
IS CURRENTLY
IN HEAVEN,
AND ALWAYS SHINING
IN THE HEARTS OF LOVERS
ALL OVER THE WORLD....

This was a reminder of Karen Carpenter's precious and one-in-a- million voice within all lovers' hearts of all romantic people in the whole wide world, and to show how much I love the album "A Song for You" as well. This special picture is now hanging in my parents' home in Chanaral, Chile, who also love The Carpenters as much as I do. I thought it was great to let other fan know about this picture, and especially now to remember Karen's coming up birthday.

Karen has made this world a happier place,

Singing lovesongs was her talent, her art;

We will never forget her smiling face,

We'll always treasure her voice of the heart!

Dear Karen,
If you were alive today, I'd tell you that you make my day every day. Your wonderful charisma, sincere friendliness. You are alive with joy and you convey it to us through your lovely music, and a special "charm" that only you carry all about you. I'd tell you to have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY, which I know you are celebrating in Heaven with the Lord Jesus. I always loved your Christmas tribute to the Savior in "He Came Here for Me." Lots of love.
Just one more fan.

Never before has there been such a voice of deep undying love.
It rings out sweet, deep melodey that fills my heart above.
Her voice stays with my every breath it fills me to my core.
As I listen to the sadness there I can hear her song much more.
The depth of which it reaches goes beyond that of man's eye,
To that special place inside of me where my emotions lie.
Her voice rang with such beauty, it soars into my heart, and fills my mind with sadness at the loss of such pure art.

Once in the dear days within recall,
When on the world mist bagan to fall,
Out of the dram that rose in happy throng..
Low to my heart..love sang an old sad song.
A song that Karen sang a long time ago..
Rainy days and Mondays always reminds me of you Karen.
Although we are strangers in many ways.

As you asked ..are we really happy with the game we play......
With so much of mystical and mysteries surrounding us..
Where do we go from here...
What has life got to provide us with...

Thy mystical voice.has a charm to beguile a melancholic heart..
To comfort a broken heart.... you are one with god.
Thou live foerever and ever unti l man retires from this world....
I love you Karen...I love you..

Always remember..yours truly
Kumar.....

You lived the "American Dream"
Growing up in Downey, CA
In the beginning, at an early age
Your brother loved the music, as did you
But at the time, you just wanted to play ball
Until you found, the sound of the drums
And you started to sing
Just two teens, you performed
For the golden opportunity
Winning the show, and the prize
You recieved a record deal
And went in and started to record, the music
That would explode you onto the scene
With your golden voices
You later, captured the sound
But there was something
That was going on, that wasn't known to the time
She had a battle with her weight
So, who would have known,
After all those years
That she would end up and die?
Their music, life, and legacy
Carries on today, because no one can't forget
The two teens, who exploded onto the scene
With their golden voices
And their golden sound
