HOPPY'S HANGER

BIG HOOT The BIG HOOT is a little larger HOOT. More wing area, fatter wing, landing gear and brushless motor makes this plane a sport flyers delight. It is using the new MPJet 2535 brushless motor, a Grish 9x6 prop, a 9x1100 HECELL battery pack and a JETI 18-3P gold ESC. All up weight is about 20 oz. It is made from WalMart Sturdy Board foam with the paper removed and the Reynolds Freeezer Paper covering method. The standard HOOT I think is a better flying plane.

HOOT
The HOOT is a aerobatic Speed 300 electric made from FOAM (Unskinned Sturdy Board or DEPRON). It is powered with a SimProp Power 300 and a MJ 5:1 gear box driving a Grish 8x6 prop. The battery is an 8 cell, 700 mah Maxell NiMH pack. Wingspan is 30" and the weight with battery is 13oz. Templates, instructions, and pictures are available in the zip file. Click Here for ZIP file
The HOOT is capable of most aerobatics not requiring rudder control. Inside/outside loops and combinations are easy. Roll rate is very fast if the aileron throws are stepped up. The large wing area makes slow flying a snap.

HOOT MOTOR UPGRADE - The speed 300 was replaced with a MINI AC 1215/16 brushless mated to the MPJet 5:1 BB gearbox driving a APC 10x7SF prop. Aerobatic capability is up by 150% or MORE! Battery pack is a 8 cell HECELL 1100 NiMH which gives full aerobatic capability at 3/5 throttle and 13-14 min flights.

ULTIMATE BIPLANE
The ULTIMATE BIPLANE is a sport scale aerobatic electric made from Depron Meat Trays. It is powered by a GWS 3A motor. It uses an 8 cell, 700mah, NiMH Maxell battery pack.

Pictures, templates, and instructions are provided in this zip file. CLICK HERE FOR ZIP FILE

PITTS SPECIAL
This PITTS is made from meat tray foam and designed for 280 power. I would make it larger as described in the text file found in the zip file, and power it with a speed 300 motor.

GWS BEAVER Mods

ELEVATOR - Cut off 1/8" from the front of the elevator (The part that moves) and glue a 1/8" bamboo skewer in it's place. Provides strength to a pretty flimsy part. PICTURE
LANDING GEAR FOR DU-BRO 2" WHEELS - Find an old collapsible TV or radio antenna. Cut off two pieces from the end piece that will slide over stock landing gear but are long enough for the DuBro Wheels and a stopper. I just used a dap of GOOP on the end. Epoxy the tubes over the landing gear.
DIHEDRAL - 7 degree TOTAL - 2 3/4" up on one wing tip with the other flat gives a very nice looking and almost scale like flying plane as long as you keep the turns gentle.
BATTERY - A 7x700mah NiMH pack flies the plane at 1/2 -2/3 throttle. BEAVER BATTERY MOUNT PICTURE
AIRFOIL - Interior Wing Shape Here
WING MOUNTED STRUT SUPPORTS - Mount these 90 degrees to that specfied in the instructions. That way, the connector fits very nicely without having to bend the strut support in half.
PROP - A 10x4.7 yields 2 oz more thrust at 2A LESS current draw. 10x4.7 is the prop to use.
WING FLUTTER - Tape a 1/8" dowel along the leading edge. Will also provide ding protection.

CONSTRUCTION HINTS AND HOWS

NEW METHOD!!!! HOW TO APPLY PAPER TO FOAM

ANOTHER FOAM COVERING METHOD - GIVES A SMOOTH WHITE PLASTIC FINISH WHICH CAN BE PAINTED

THE BEST FOAM COVERING MATERIAL? I'm presently using 3/4 oz fiberglass put on with waterbased polyurethane varnish. After putting on a heavy coat of the WBPU, squeegy off the excess with a credit card. This method add's about 15% to the weight of the bare foam but adds strength, provides a good painting surface, applies easily over complex shapes and doesn't shrink like the brown paper/white glue. If your foam has a shiny surface, it must be sanded before applying the fiberglass/wbpu.
