One Focus and ... Home!
Have you ever watched New Agers chasing after every new book, every new teacher, every new method, or every new fad ... never to reach total enlightenment or anything remotely close to the out-of-this world heavenly joy Jesus promises?
If you saw a tiger chasing it's own tail around and around, wouldn't you ask the tiger: "Where do you think you are going?
Never mind. Don't ask such a question of New Agers. They probably think they are going somewhere or accomplishing something, and like the drunk who wants others to drink with him, they will do everything to tempt you to join in their tail chasing.
"But we're chasing after God!"
Really? Then why not put all your attention on nothing but God?
To be gentle, let's give New Agers the benefit of any doubt and say what they really want is an experience of God.
But how do you have an experience of God when you are looking at your human self or earthly values?
It appears New Agers actually spend very little time looking at God.
Some New Agers are addicted to looking at themselves, identifying ego devices, and working on themselves ... as if they could somehow lift themselves into heaven, and as if their very focus on their human self wasn't busy creating more and stronger human self.
Other New Agers are intellectually aware of the creative power of mind, but have become addicted to using their magic power to produce more earthly goodies, as if earthly goodies could ever bring them heavenly happiness, and as if their very focus on earthly goodies wasn't simply making earth more real for them, and making more real the "importance" and "precedence" of earth over heaven.
What New Agers seem to have not yet learned is that mind is infinitely more creative than they can imagine, so to have the experience of God one must place one's entire attention on God and only God.
Most Evangelical Christians, for example, do a better job than New Agers in holding one focus in this respect. Probably because they are far more into the Bible than New Agers and never tire of hearing Jesus saying loud and clear: "The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. (Luke 11:34)
If you like hearing Jesus in modern language, here is how it is said in his modern day revelation A Course in Miracles:
"All that is needful is to train our minds to overlook all little, senseless aims, and to remember that our goal is God. His memory is hidden in our minds, obscured but by our pointless little goals which offer nothing and do not exist. Shall we continue to allow God’s grace to shine in unawareness, while the toys and trinkets of the world are sought instead? God is our only goal, our only Love. We have no aim but to remember Him." (ACIM Lesson 258)
Of course New Agers will argue that Evangelical and also Mainline Christians are constantly bringing themselves down from the light of heaven by shifting their focus to what they call "the enemy," or simply by turning to government for solutions to seeming problems rather than trusting that God is working perfectly.
Nobody ever said Evangelical and Mainline Christians wouldn't benefit from reading A Course in Miracles and allowing it to work in their minds. The Course is a preparation device given by Jesus, as if Jesus is saying "Here, let me try once again to get my point across totally."
Preparation for what? For living in total enlightenment and total truth. For living in a world without pain or sickness, fear or poverty, death or taxation. For living in a world of joyous love and oneness beyond imagination.
The lesson Jesus teaches is so very simple: mind is totally creative. If you choose to look upon illness, you generate more illness. If you choose to focus on the earthly, you make more problems on earth. But if you choose to look toward only God, then you see only what God has created, not what human consciousness has created. Then you see only heaven. Then every unhappiness gets solved by the One Who knows of Real Solutions.
Then of course it doesn't matter what New Agers are doing, or what Evangelical Christians are doing, or what Mainline Christians are doing. Because you are seeing clearly.
You can begin today by placing your attention in the heavens even as you go through your earthly motions while using this mantra in your mind constantly:
