A Holosuite
Challenger Tribute (ala GI Joe)
This page serves as a small tribute to those seven brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of science aboard the Shuttle Challenger.
On January 28th, 1986, the crew of the
Shuttle Challenger thundered off the launch pad and into history.
On board were
Mission specialist Ellison S. Onizuka, Teacher in Space Participant Sharon Christa McAuliffe,
Payload specialist Greg Jarvis, Mission specialist Judy Resnik,
Pilot Mike Smith, Commander Dick Scobee, and Mission specialist Ron McNair.
Approximately 74 seconds into their flight a catastrophic systems failure
occurred which ended their lives,
and changed all of our lives forever.
They are honored. They are loved.
They are missed.
This page serves as a tribute to their
courage and also as a way to document the
efforts to represent the crew
in 1:6 scaled miniatures.

Assembling the Crew |
Here a Soldier of The World Figure provides
the extra height and mature face
required for the Greg Jarvis figure
seen in the back row.
The crew has 4 Flight Suits from GI Joe Blue Angel
sets.
A Robert Crippen head sculpt from the GI Joe
Shuttle Pilot set makes a nice figure for the
Dick Scobee figure seated in the center.

Perhaps the most notable crew member on the final Challenger
mission was
Teacher in Space Participant Sharon Christa McAuliffe.
Her planned adventure in space captured the minds and hearts
of school children across the globe.
At this point a head sculpt for the Christa figure
has been found. It's a Katerina Witt figure
from the Stars on Ice series.
A set of paper patches have been prototyped.
The flight suit in this instance is a vintage
GI Joe Adventure Team Helicopter Rescue jumpsuit.

Here's the final 1:6 crew.
All the figures ended up in the darker blue suits.
Pilot Mike Smith is represented by a PowerTeam
figure dressed in a Voyager Toys shuttle suit.
Mission Specialist Onazuka is represented by a
21st Century figure. Mission Specialist Judy Resnik
is represented by a Xena figure.
The shuttle model is from the Hot Wheels John Glenn
Action Pack set.
