CHRIS LARABEE   played by Michael Biehn

Leader of the Seven/Quick-draw
He lost his wife and young son in a fire that was meant to kill him.  Gathered the Seven together to help save an Indian village.  Very no-nonsense.  Has a tendency to wear all-black, except for a colorful poncho (there's a better word for it) given to him by Josiah (see him below).  Was a rancher and is now (before "Obsession") on a sort of crusade to find his family's killer.

Is interested in Mary Travis (see her character sketch below) but won't admit it to himself or to her.

TOP HAT BOB: You been scared of running into me since we met.
CHRIS: There's a couple of ladies I'm scared of running into but you're not one of them.

VIN TANNER     played by Eric Close

Bounty Hunter/Sharp-shooter/Tracker
Right-hand man to Chris.
Has a price on his own head for a murder in Texas which he was framed for, by the real murderer.  Is out to clear his name.  He is a closet poet but is illiterate (Mary is teaching him to read).  He had previously spent time living with various Indian tribes of the South-west and has become familiar with their cultures and methods.

VIRGIL: You walk off with that rifle and you're fired.
VIN: Hell, I'll probably get myself killed. Now I gotta worry about a new job, too
.

VIN: Aw, hell, Nathan, you know Chris doesn't say more than 3 words in a day.

JD DUNNE    played by Andrew Kavovit

City Slicker/The Kid
He is a young "green horn" from back east who came out west when his mother died and couldn't afford to go to college.  He had romantic notions of the wild west from reading dime novels and is a big fan of Bat Masterson.  He is idealistic and very loyal.

He is like a little brother to Buck (see sketch below) who taught him (or tried to) how to shoot straight.  He is unofficially boyfriend of Casey (see sketch below).

JD: Ma'am, I'm a gunslinger, not an inkslinger.

BUCK WILMINGTON     played by Dale Midkiff

The Scoundrel/Ladies Man
He was a good friend to Chris and knew him before the Seven were assembled.  He also knew Chris' wife (was probably interested in her, too) and was partying with Chris in Mexico the night she was killed.  Enjoys the company of a woman, which sometimes gets the better of him.

Acts like a big brother to JD, who he teases constantly.

BUCK: Hell, Ezra, this hand's got as much chance as a one-legged man at a butt-kicking contest.

JOSIAH SANCHEZ     played by Ron Perlman

The Preacher
Has a mysterious background but for some reason seeks penance for his past, and wields a gun as easily as a Bible.  He has lived with various Indian tribes and has studied various faiths, including Christianity, Indian religions, and Buddhism.  His father was a priest.

He has taken a liking to Maude Standish (Ezra's mother).

JOSIAH: No, I was, uh... I was a priest once, but, uh ... had a little trouble turning the other cheek.

EZRA: Mother??
JOSIAH: Mother? I always thought Ezra was raised by wolves.

EZRA STANDISH      played by Anthony Starke

The Gambler/Con Man
He was brought up in a life of crime by his mother Maude (no word on what happened to his father) and was raised by various aunts and uncles when he wasn't "needed" by his mother.  He resents her for not being there for him.  However, as a master of slight-of-hand and disguises, he knows "every trick in the book" and uses them to his advantage - mainly in conning people out of their money.  He also seeks to become a better person and to live up to his new responsibility as a protector of the town.

Fights constantly with Nathan (see sketch below) about morals and ethics.  Gets along great with children.

EZRA: I abhor gambling, and as such, leave nothing to chance.

EZRA: A gentleman does not debase himself by engaging in menial labor.

EZRA: I suggest we leave before the cold shroud of puritanism smothers us all.

NATHAN JACKSON     played by Rick Worthy

The Healer
A former slave who had escaped captivity during the Civil War and fought in the Union Army where he learned how to do some doctoring.  His mother killed herself when she discovered she was pregnant with the slave-owner's baby, and he and his father had recently reunited.  Knows many tricks from when he was a slave and in the army, such as sword fighting.  Weapon of choice is the knife, which he throws with dead-on accuracy.

Constantly argues with Ezra about morals and ethics.

NATHAN: It's not like you, ridin' off alone to save the day. What's come over you?
EZRA: I'll, uh, I'll let you know when I figure it out.

MARY TRAVIS     played by Laurie Holden

Editor of the Clarion (town's newspaper)
Strong frontier woman with clout in the town of Four Corners where the Seven were hired as protectors.  Her husband was the old news editor but he was killed when he tried to publish a story that would have ruined the careers of several townspeople.  She has a 6-year-old son Billy, who used to live with his grandparents in a different town before 4 Corners became a safer place to live.  Her father-in-law is Judge Orrin Travis.

She is interested in Chris but won't let him know it.

CASEY WELLS     played by Dana Barron

The town tomboy
Her aunt Nettie asked the Seven for help in keeping her ranch from being taken over by some greedy punk.  She is young and naive, but can "ride, shoot, and spit" as well as any man.

She is JD's unofficial girlfriend.

JUDGE ORRIN TRAVIS     played by Robert Vaughn

The circuit judge for the territory
Mary's father-in-law.  He hired the Seven to protect the town of Four Corners since there is no sheriff or official lawman in town and pays them a dollar a day plus room and board.  He is very no-nonsense, very tough and fair and never forgets a face, particularly not one he helped to "put away."

INEZ RECILLOS (?)   played by Fabiana Udenio

Manager of the saloon
She arrived in town on the day Ezra owned the saloon because she was running away from her Mexico and her old boss who abused her.  She had been servant to the man's father, but when father died, the son took over and arrogantly abused his power.  So she fought him off and ran away... to 4 Corners where she began as Ezra's bartender, then was promoted by Ezra's mother to manager.

She fights off Buck's advances and may or may not have an interest in Ezra.
