SHAQ VS.

"Shaq
Vs.," which is set to premiere Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. ET, begins filming
Wednesday in Pittsburgh, where Shaq will take on Pittsburgh Steelers
quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in football.
Future episodes of the hour-long show will feature Shaq against Olympic
swimming sensation Michael Phelps, boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya, St. Louis
Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols, tennis star Serena Williams and beach
volleyball Olympians Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh.
Shaq told HOLLYWOOD HAPPENINGS, at a recent news conference in Santa
Monica, that he came up with the idea as a way to train for the NBA
season. He thought that Americans "would really want to see an athlete
play another sport," according to the newspaper. The Cleveland Cavaliers,
Shaq's new team, have cleared the 37-year-old O'Neal to take part in the
show.
He is scheduled to report for the Cavs' opening of training camp on Sept.
15. Shaq will train with a coach for one week leading up to each challenge.
"These athletes may be on top of their game, but I am up for the challenge,"
O'Neal said. "I plan to train hard and win, so look out."
Media Rights Capital is behind the series, along with Dick Clark
Prods.O'Neal will exec produce, along with Scott Messick, Perry Rogers and
Dick Clark Prods.' Orly Adelson, Will Staeger and Barry Adelman.
This
time around, "Shaq Vs." will follow O'Neal and his weekly competitor as they
go through the training process -- and even hold a press conference before
the big day. O'Neal will train for a week leading up to each challenge; to
keep the playing field level, he'll also negotiate a handicap with each
opponent. Last year Shaq 's Big challenge helped overweight kids learn how
to built a healthy lifestyle.
On
August 9, Shaq vs. took on Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor gold medalist
in women's volleyball.
Olympic Gold Medalists in beach volleyball Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser
will discuss their head-to-head matchup and handicap which will be featured
in an episode of the new reality series “Shaq VS” on ABC.
On Monday, August 10, Shaq was off to St. Louis to battle Albert Pujols in a
home run derby, at the T.R. Hughes stadium in O'Fallon, MO. Shaq attended
the St. Louis Cardinal game, and threw out the first pitch. Shaq upon
hearing of the quest of 8 year old Mikey Humbolt losing his father eariler
this year was touched, and wanted to meet Mikey in person. He took him
asisde and told him that he was the man and that he nedded to be the man,
and he made a promise that he would take care of his mother Sheila Miller-Humbolt
whose was diagnoised with MS la year ago. It meant so much to Mikey to have
the opportunity to meet and have him to personally speak to him. It is an
experince that he will never forget.
Shaq is one of the truest and most geninue athletes of today, and perhaps of
all time. He really cares about other people, and puts other peoples
needs ahead of his own needs. He never foregot where he came from.
Shaq wins the award for great All American person.
After leaving St. Louis, he headed to Las Vegas to take on boxing legend
Oscar De La Hoya, and then to Balitmore to battle against Olympic swimming
sensation Michael Phelps. He will also take on tennis star Serna Williams.
The one person that Shaq would love to take on in a game of one on one is
the President Obama.
Eye On Taylor Swift
By Hannah Humbolt
Staff Writer
Taylor Swift became one of
country-pops brightest faces in 2006, when the 16 year old vocalist
released her first album. taylor had been performing since yearly
childhood, taking inspiration from her Oprah singing grandmother.
Taylors parents realized they had benn making many visits to Nashville,
TN, where taylos had been making causal appearances. Where she had met
many song-writers. Her family had then decided to move from their
Pennsylvania home out to a Nashville suburb, which accelerated taylor's
career.
While performing at the Nashville intimate bluebird cafe, she had caught
the eye of music industry veteran Scott Borchetta, who signed her to his
newly formed album.
Swift had then joined the roster at big machine record and released her
debut single -"TIM MC GRAW" in August 2006.
Swift had been nominated for best vocalist in the grammys of 2008. these
days taylos latest album is called "Fearless" , which is a huge hit!!!
GUIDING LIGHT WILL BECOME A SOAP
OF THE PAST:
By: Karen Pinskton
Edior -N-Chief
Guiding Light Bites the Dust,
after 72 years. CBS has announced that it’s daytime drama ‘Guiding
Light,’ Television’s longest-running drama will broadcast its
final episode on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. At the time of its final
broadcast, the series will have spanned 72 years and more than
15,700 episodes on both television and radio.
Created by Irna Phillips, the show debuted
on NBC radio on January 25, 1937 as the 15-minute radio serial
‘The ‘Guiding Light.’ It made the switch to 15-minute episodes on
CBS Television on June 30, 1952, although it continued to air
concurrently on radio with the actors playing parts on both shows
until 1956, when the radio show ended.
The series first started broadcasting in
color in 1967, and a year later, the show expanded from 15 minutes
to 30 minutes. In November 1977, the show expanded to a full hour.
The series is credited by The Guinness Book of World Records as
“The Longest-Running Television Drama.”
“‘Guiding Light‘ has achieved a piece of
television history that will never be matched; it has crossed
mediums, adapted its stories to decades of social change and woven
its way through generations of audiences like no other,” said
Nancy Tellem, President, CBS Paramount Network Television
Entertainment Group. “This daytime icon will always be an
indelible part of CBS’s history, with a legacy of innovation and
reputation for quality and excellence at every step of the way.
While its presence will be missed, its contributions will always
be celebrated and never be forgotten.”
The later half of the 1970’s and
into the 1980’s brought about a lot of changes to soaps. These
were the years that the soaps went primetime, and brought the
daytime soaps into more of a social status.
Over the years a lot of soaps
have come and gone, while others have remained. Guiding Light
remains the longest running soap in the history of television, and
well as the longest running show on the television today.
A few of the soaps from the
past were nominated for Daytime Emmy’s, one such soap, is Love Is
A Many Splendored Thing, Prior to its cancellation, this show was
nominated for four Emmy Awards:
(1971) OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN DAYTIME
PROGRAMMING James Angerame, Technical Director Victor L.
Paganuzzi, Art Director; John A. Wendell, Set Decorator
(1973) OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT BY
INDIVIDUALS IN DAYTIME DRAMA Peter Levin, Director Victor
Paganuzzi, Scenic Designer; John A. Wendell, Set Decorator
Some of the other soaps that have won
several awards, include Santa Barbara, Ryan’s Hope, The Doctors,
The Edge Of Night, Another World, Loving, and Search For Tomorrow.
Santa Barbara, won three years straight for Outstanding Drama
Series for the years, 1987, 1988, and 1989-90 seasons. Ryan’s
Hope won it in 1976-77, and again in 1979-1980 seasons. Another
World, won in 1975-1976, The Doctors in 1973-1974, and the Edge of
Night in 1972-1973. Loving won for Outstanding Supporting Actor
in a Drama Series in 1990-1991, and Search for Tomorrow won the
award in 1980-81 the same year Search for Tomorrow won for
Outstanding Supporting Actor. Search for Tomorrow won Outstanding
Lead Actor two years in a row in 1975-76 and 1976-77.
In March 1982, P&G moved the show to NBC
at 12:30 (bumping the low rated soap The Doctors to Noon) with
disastrous ratings results. When Search left CBS, the show was
pulling in a 6.8 rating, which was good enough for eighth in
daytime. By the end of the year, Search was fourteenth in the
ratings, just .1 ahead of where The Doctors would finish the year.
Love of Life was an American soap opera
which was aired on CBS from September 24, 1951 to February 1,
1980. It was created by Roy Winsor; Winsor also created Search for
Tomorrow, which premiered three weeks before Love of Life, and The
Secret Storm, which would debut two and a half years later.
The Edge of Night was a long-running
American television soap opera produced by Procter & Gamble. It
debuted on CBS on April 2, 1956, and ran on that network until
November 28, 1975; the series then aired on ABC from December 1,
1975, until December 28, 1984. There were 7,420 episodes, with
some 1,800 available for syndication.
Ryan's Hope (RH) was a soap opera which
aired for fourteen years on ABC, from July 7, 1975 to January 13,
1989. The show aired a total of 3515 30-minute episodes. In late
1974, ABC Daytime approached Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer,
who were the Head Writers of CBS' Love of Life at the time, about
creating a new soap opera. The network wanted a series similar to
General Hospital. The proposed title of the new serial was City
Hospital. Labine and Mayer added a large Irish family to ABC's
vision of the show -- the Ryan family. RH was created, owned, and
originally written by Labine and Avila Mayer, who had previously
written Where The Heart Is and Love of Life.
Another World was a television soap opera
that ran on the NBC network from May 4, 1964 to June 25, 1999. It
was created by legendary serial creator Irna Phillips along with
William J. Bell, and was produced by Procter & Gamble Productions
in studios located in Brooklyn.
Set in the fictional town of Bay City, the
show in its early years opened with announcer Bill Wolff
(1964-1987) intoning its epigram, “We do not live in this world
alone, but in a thousand other worlds,” which Irna said
represented the difference between “the world of events we live
in, and the world of feelings and dreams that we strive for.”
The expansion to 90 minutes and its impact
on ratings
Although it is widely thought that Another
World's expansion to 90 minutes was a cause of ratings erosion,
the decision to expand the show was made at a time when its
ratings (and that of NBC's other serials) were already in steady
decline. It should be noted that even during the period when
Another World ran daily for 90 minutes; it remained NBC's
highest-rated soap opera, as it had been for a decade. In the
second half of 1980, after the show returned to 60 minutes,
Another World and fellow NBC serials Days of Our Lives and, most
dramatically, The Doctors, experienced a collapse in ratings from
which NBC's daytime soap lineup never fully recovered. It would
not be until 1984 that both Days and Another World would recover
some of their lost ground.
Dark Shadows is a Gothic soap opera that
originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June
27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. The show was created by Dan Curtis, who
tells of a dream he had in which a girl takes a long train ride to
visit a large mansion. Peyton Place is an American primetime
serial which aired on ABC in half-hour episodes from September 15,
1964 to June 2, 1969. The program was broadcast in black-and-white
from 1964 to 1966 and in color from 1966 to 1969. Produced by 20th
Century Fox Television, to date it is the only primetime series
ever to run episodes continuously without reruns. The series
served as the springboard for such now famous performers as Ryan
O'Neal, Mia Farrow, and David Canary.
Many soaps have come and gone through the
years, but there today remains, from soap that keeps on going and
that is the Guiding Light. Guiding Light (known as The Guiding
Light prior to 1975, or simply GL) is an Emmy award winning
American television program credited by the Guinness Book of World
Records as being the longest-running soap opera in production and
the longest running drama in television history. The 15,000th
televised episode of Guiding Light aired on September 7, 2006. Due
to this series run, it is not only considered to be the longest
soap opera, but the longest-running scripted show in history. It
has been announced that Guiding Light has been renewed into its
72nd season through 2009.

One of the most famous stars to come from
one of these old soaps was actor Christopher Reeve. Reeve took a job
in the soap opera Love of Life in July 1974. He played Ben Harper,
an antagonistic character with a polygamist lifestyle and history of
criminal behavior. By August, his character had become popular, and
ratings for the show improved. Reeve was no longer an anonymous
actor; people on buses would give him advice as to which female
character to marry. The soap opera schedule eventually forced him to
drop out of Juilliard.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO KEVIN BACON?
By: Mary Philips
Features Edior
Kevin Norwood Bacon[1] (born July 8, 1958) is an
American film and theater actor whose notable roles include Footloose,
Flatliners, A Few Good Men, Apollo 13, Mystic River, The Woodsman, Friday
the 13th, Hollow Man, and Tremors.
Bacon has been nominated for an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a
Screen Actors Guild Award[2] and has been called one of the best actors to
never receive an Oscar nomination. He mad his movie debut in the
fraternity comedy Animal House in 1978 did not lead to the instant fame
for which he had hoped, and Bacon returned to waiting tables and
auditioning for small roles in theater. He did a couple of stints on
television soap operas Search For Tomorrow (1979) and The Guiding Light
(1980–81) in New York while waiting for larger roles to come along. He
refused an offer of a television series based on Animal House to be filmed
in California in order to remain close to the New York stage. Some of his
early stage work included Getting Out performed at New York's Phoenix
Theater, and Flux which he did at Second Stage Theatre during their
1981–1982 season.
Bacon, the youngest of six children, was born and raised in a close-knit
family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Bacon has been married to actress Kyra Sedgwick since
September 4, 1988; they met on the set of the PBS version of Lanford
Wilson's play Lemon Sky. "The time I was hitting what I considered to be
bottom was also the time I met my wife, our kids were born, good things
were happening", he explained to Cosmopolitan's Chase. "And I was able to
keep supporting myself; that always gave me strength."[cite this quote]
Bacon
and Sedgwick have starred together in Pyrates, Murder in the First, and
The Woodsman. They have two children, Travis Sedgwick Bacon (born June 23,
1989 in Los Angeles, California) and Sosie Ruth Bacon (born March 15,
1992). The family resides on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Bacon and Sedgwick appeared in will.i.am's video It's a New Day which was
released following Barack Obama's 2008 presidential win.
Bacon and Sedgwick lost an undisclosed amount of money in the Ponzi scheme
of infamous fraudulent investor Bernard Madoff.[13][14]

Joseph Adam Jonas was born on August 15,
1989. Joe is one of the lead singers in his band, The Jonas Brothers.
Joe is the middle brother, 2 years younger than Kevin and 3 years
older than nick. he also has a little brother named Frankie which is
the "Bouns Jonas". Joe is filled will comedy, and has a huge heart.
Joe would be the first to admit, he shops alot!!! his style is
inspired be the 1980's rock "n" roll. he loves wearing vintage band
t-shirts, sneakers,and straight legged jeans.
When joe was younger, he would have roles on broadway. one of his
roles was in " La Boeme". Joe has always been inspired by paul Mc
Cartney. the most wonderful thing about joe is that he is so
hot,hot,hot,hot,hot!!!
it was a huge thrill to all 3 boys when they
were asked to perform at the 2007 American Music Awards! It was our
first time being on a big awards show. on stage they dont know what to
expect on stage with all the crazy fans.
We choreographed a really cool opening for our song "S.O.S" where we
were supposed to appear onstage by crashing through special glass, the
song would start. thats when joe fell on the glass and received a huge
cut with gushing blood!!!
the jonas brothers new cd came out June 16, 2009. lines, vines, and
trying times. earlier Joe had stared in the hit disney movie "Camp
Rock". During the making of the movie a funny moment was remembered.
Joe once had swallowed $1.25 in quarters.
