Dennis - Dennis was a teacher at Hollyoaks Comprehensive School. He was married to Helen and was father to Lewis and Mandy. He was an alcoholic, which caused him to be a terrible husband and father. He used to beat his wife and children up. He sexually abused his daughter when she was little and then raped her when he found out that she was going out with Sol. After running away, Mandy, on her return told the police what her father had done to her and he was arrested and the case went to court where he was found guilty of rape. He was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment in November 1998. However he was released in April 2003 and he came back to Hollyoaks. Dennis tried to talk to Mandy to explain why he had done what he had but she refused to listen. Dennis tried to become friends with Helen again when she took him to the place where Lewis' ashes had been scattered. Mandy, Max, Mr C and Tony turned up to try and get rid of Dennis and a fight broke out between Max and Dennis when Max punched him. Dennis was last seen telling Mandy that he had cancer and he was dying hoping she might at least forgive him. She went out and brought him some alcohol to quicken his death, telling him she could never forgive him!

Lewis - When Lewis entered the show he was a bit of a wide boy organising computer competitions and raft races! He was Mandy's brother and was very protective of her, warning Ollie (her older boyfriend) to leave her alone. He was part of the Crazy Bazz Studs band along with Lucy, Carol and Bazz who got a record contract but the band split up when Bazz quit. He then formed another band, The Lewis Carol Experience with Lucy and Carol but quit when Lucy hid drugs in his guitar case causing him to be arrested. Lewis was very close to his sister and mother and often helped them and talked to them about Dennis. He let them take refuge in his flat when his father hit Mandy in school. When Mandy ran away Lewis was active in the search to try and find her. When he eventually found out that she was in hospital in London after an attempted suicide, he rushed to her bedside and got her to confess why she had run away, the truth being that her father had raped her. Lewis was devastated and promised he would never let Dennis hurt her again! Lewis was a main source of support for Mandy during the trial and after and helped her to piece her life back together again. Lewis had a relationship with Jude but split up with her when her lies destroyed their relationship. Lewis started an affair with Ruth while she was still seeing Kurt (her husband) but they broke it off. However when Kurt and Ruth split up due to Kurt's affair with Kate (Ruth's step sister) Ruth and Lewis rekindled their relationship but agreed to keep things causal. However Ruth then had an affair with Luke Morgan and eventually confessed everything to Lewis and he dumped her. Lewis then met Beth Morgan and had a brief relationship with her before dumping her as he realised she was too young for him. When Ruth decided to move back to the States, as there was nothing left for her in Chester, Lewis made a mad dash to the airport to stop her and they eventually got back together. When Rob kidnapped Lucy, Lewis along with Tony and Ruth found her and managed to save her. (For more information see the Classic Episode Guide - Rob kidnaps Lucy!) Lewis and the gang carried on with their lives until Rob came back into Hollyoaks and on Millennium Eve Rob set fire to Finn's bus - which Lucy, Lewis, Ruth, Finn and Tony were all on celebrating the coming new year. The bus exploded resulting in Rob's death whilst everyone else managed to escape. In February 2000 Lewis and Finn went into partnership and bought the yard of Mr Morgan. They began to organise club nights but the deposit money Finn gave Lewis to hire a club proved too much of a temptation for him and he spent it on a computer for Ruth. Lewis then started gambling to try and win the money back and he became friendly with local nightclub owner Lorraine whose casino he gambled in. When Ruth became pregnant Lewis was overjoyed, however Ruth had an abortion and told Lewis she had miscarried when Lewis found out about Ruth's abortion he beat her up! Lewis and Finn converted a warehouse into a nightclub called The Loft, which opened in September 2000. Lewis continued to gamble and borrow money and Lorraine offered him the chance to clear his debts by sleeping with her. He refused and Lorraine trashed his flat. Lewis then confessed to Finn that he owed Lorraine money and Finn used the money Victoria (his fiancée at this point) had put into the business to pay Lorraine back. Ruth then discovered that Lewis had lied about how much was stolen from the flat and he told her about his debts to Lorraine. Ruth hit Lewis and he hit her back! Ruth and Lewis' relationship was strained until Lewis agreed to go to Gamblers Anonymous. Finn then put Lewis on a wage at The Loft until he paid back the money that he owed Finn. Due to all of this Lewis slept with Lorraine and she helped him arrange Finn's stag night. (See Classic Episode Guide Boys Do Barca for more information) When Lewis arrived home from Barcelona he panicked that Lorraine was going to tell Ruth about his affair with her and so he confessed everything to Ruth and they split up. Lewis then began to steal from The Loft to fuel his gambling addiction, and as his addiction spiralled out of control he almost hit his mum. Deciding he needed to get away from Hollyoaks for a while Lewis went to Ireland to try and sort himself out. On his return Lewis returned it seemed, a new man. However a loan shark came after Lewis and it was discovered that Lewis had taken a loan out in Ireland under the name of Kurt Benson and it had to be repaid in thirty days. Lewis then got together with Geri after Game For I.T and ended up stealing the profits from the fund raising event, as he was desperate for money he also sold Geri's car when she was on holiday. Lewis then turned to his mum for more money and Helen lent him it on the condition he went to counselling Lewis said he would but never did. Lewis also stole money from the Dog and gambled the money he already had in order to get more, but ended up losing everything. Lewis borrowed money off Izzy and Geri and when he discovered Geri was two timing him with Jason Cunliffe he blackmailed him. When Geri found out what Lewis had done she dumped him. Finally Lewis tried to set fire to The Loft to claim money on the insurance. However Ruth caught him and he told her about how much debt he was in. Ruth then got Finn and Tony to buy Lewis out of The Loft and they broke their friendship off with him. Ruth, Tony and Finn then moved away from Hollyoaks Village as Tony had brought a restaurant in Northgate Mews and Lewis followed them unable to get over Ruth. In the late night series Movin' On the final decline of Lewis was shown. Lewis tried to get Ruth to go back out with him but she refused. He then went out with Louise but only in an attempt to get close to Ruth. However Louise and Lewis split up, as Louise couldn’t cope with Lewis' destructive nature. Eventually Lewis told Ruth the complete truth about what he had done including using Kurt's name to take out a loan, thinking she might forgive him now he had finally told her the whole truth. Ruth was furious and told Lewis to stay away from her for good because she had moved on. However when Lewis was drunk he broke into Ruth's flat and tried to rape her, Ruth fought him off and they got into a huge argument, which culminated in Lewis beating Ruth severely up. After this Lewis took an overdose not being able to live with himself believing he had killed Ruth. The next morning Lewis was unaware of what he had done but Finn (after finding out what he had done to Ruth) found Lewis and took him to hospital where Lewis was told he had inflicted irrevocable liver damage and was dying. Mandy found out what Lewis had done to Ruth and she told him that she could never forgive him just a few hours before he died.
