Holland-Hayward Family

Passenger list of the Clarence

Sailed London 24th Sept 1874 - arrived Hawkes Bay 5th Jan 1875

Name Age County Occupation

Families and children

Note that young adult and teenage children's names appear twice on this section of the list. They appear once on the main passenger list with their parents (with a note made alongside their entry) and then again in the relevant single men/women sections. There are two Sinclair baby boys shown born the same day and with identical names. This needs confirming - but other references suggest that there were only two babies born at all, and therefore one of these Sinclair entries will be incorrect.

The various Norwegian passengers spread throughout the ship  are probably the same family, with assorted misspellings. The correct surname might be Thorstensen or Torstensen. This is also supported by the nominated family of 'Thoston/Thosten' Larsen having similar names. The Scandinavian method of gaining surnames means that 'Thoston/Thosten' Larsen's children would have the surname 'Thostensen' or similar variations in Norway, but probably became Larsen in New Zealand.

The original online source used for this passenger list used was:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ourstuff/Clarence.htm

The 'Archives New Zealand' reference for the Clarence file  is "IM15/167"

I have also referred back to the microfilm of the passenger list and made a few very minor corrections - and also found four more families overlooked in error by the original transcriber!!
