Well, Sadie is finally learning flyball!! She's doing quite well at it, too - she has already been clocked at doing runs of 4.95 seconds. Pretty fast for a dog who is just learning the sport still!! I will post pictures when I have some.

She FINALLY DID IT!! Tilly finally made her Flyball Master title!! 5000 points!
This weekend, at Amana, IA, Tilly finally got her Flyball Master title. I am so proud of her! We started the weekend at around 4,500 points, and she managed to finish those last points on Sunday. Very exciting stuff! Today, I went and looked at the NAFA website, and it turns out that the highest-ranked long-haired standard dachshund is only at 5,412 points. The highest-ranked short-haired standard was only at 3,000 points! And the miniature dachshunds were nowhere near that! Shocking, huh? I had no idea, and I don't know why it never occured to me to look sooner! Especially since her physical geometry is so close to a purebred's. But she did so well this weekend - her times were consistent throughout the whole weekend - she started the weekend at 6.7 and 6.8 second runs and ended the weekend with the same. Slow, yes, but consistent, and the faster dogs on our team more than made up for it - we clearly had a LOT of 25 point runs. And we broke out twice on saturday - we had to be VERY careful to not break out a third time! That says a lot for the speed of the other dogs - a six point seven dog and we still broke out when our breakout time was somewhere around 21? Not half bad. But my crazy dog actually made it to her FM title!!! Wow!! Take a look at some pics!!

I realized that I don't have hardly ANY puppy pics of Tilly on here - you all must think I dote entirely on the youngster!! Well, here's some of my favorites of Tilly. Be gentle - these were taken with an old 110 film camera, so they aren't real clear. Tilly as a pup, licking her nose, and Tilly sitting by my futon
Here also is a cute pair of pics - Sadie and Tilly together when Sadie was a mere
nine weeks old and again when she was six months old. Look at how the height difference changes!!
Here also is another pic from
Henry, IL, 2003 - This pic is funny because, no matter how hard Tilly tried, she COULD NOT beat this whippet! Both dogs were running "anchor" position, meaning both dogs are the last dogs in the running order, and it did not matter how much of a jump Tilly had on this dog, it would ALWAYS pull past her! It got to the point where it was hilarious - this goofy dachshund mix, try as she might, stood no chance against a whippet! But oh, did she try!!

Here's some older pictures of Tilly that are on a netscape page, the problem is the page is almost unloadable - it is WAY too graphic heavy. So first, here are some pics from prior flyball outings - Tilly and I at the Brewery in Amana, Relaxing at the Brewery, the group at the Brewery in Amana, Tily at the Startline, and Tilly at the flyball box. The The brewery pics were taken in Amana Colonies, Iowa, in November 2001. The last two pictures are from, I think, a tournament in Henry, Illinois during October 2001.

I took some great pictures on Sadie's birthday! Here they are -
A Birthday Snooze, Waiting for Cake, and the Cake itself. I also had a couple others from this winter developed. Fuzziest Sadie is a picture of Sadie looking her fuzziest ever, that I took just before Christmas - people keep telling me that at age one, she still has not yet gotten in her full coat, but all I can say is Wow! When she finally DOES get her full coat, she will really look like something! I also have a cute picture of the girls outside during winter, waiting for me to hurry up and let them in the house already! Yes, Tilly is wearing a coat - she's half dachschund, so her tummy gets cold, since her legs are not tall enough to carry her over the snow!! She loves her coat - she's always happy to have it put on her!
Update 3/24/04
Here's a pic of Sadie that was taken around
Thanksgiving. I never got around to posting it!!  I should be posting more soon - I took some great pictures of the dog's on Sadie's birthday. More and more, we have come to the conclusion that Sadie is a purebred. This is very tough for me - those who know me, know I have NEVER owned a purebred dog in my life. Didn't ever want one, as I adore mutts. Well, I guess I have expanded my horizons!
12/20/03 Link to Steve's page - for those who are interested, Steve is my significant other, and the blond guy with glasses in this picture. It's the only picture he'll let me post!! Here's me with Tilly and my mother's dog, Bennett, a few years ago. My hair isn't as long anymore, but you get the general idea.
11/21/03 Update
Well, this year has been an interesting one. Tilly is now up to over 3000 points in flyball, which means she may actually reach the title of Flyball Master. I also finally registered her with NADAC, an Agility competition association. She has so far been in one agility event, at which she took home both a white ribbon for a qualifying round, and a
blue ribbon and a white ribbon for a round where she not only qualified, she also won the round in her height division. That was a "tunnelers" event. She loved it. Right now, though, we are concentrating on finishing that FM title in Flyball. Once she gets that done, I may officially retire her from Flyball and concentrate on Agility with her the way I've been talking about doing.
This year also saw an addition of a new puppy to our house. Sadie is a shetland sheepdog, possibly a purebred, but likely an unidentifiable mix, that came to me through the
South Eastern Wisconsin Herding Dog Rescue group.  She was born March 17th, 2003, so she's a St. Patrick's day puppy. Here's a couple of pictures of her: puppy, puppy in crate, seventeen weeks, and six months. Here's some new pics of Tilly from a flyball tournament - picture a, picture b and pic c. These were taken at Jefferson, Wisconsin. Very good pics, really show her determination!! I really love it when photographers come to these events - it's so hard to describe how much she loves flyball, but these pictures do it beautifully.
8/29/02 Update....
Well, things have sure been hopping for us!! She's since gotten to Flyball Dog Champion, and she certainly does love flyball! Here are some other pictures of her - closeup of
Tilly, Tilly in our kitchen next to our dead plants, and Tilly standing in our livingroom!
Original page, sometime in 2000:
Tilly, my dog, is a daschound/border collie mix who looks rather curious in person, but is incredibly sweet.  Yes, you read that right - the Humane Society told me that she is a daschound/Border collie mix, with the rest of the parentage information unknown (the above BC & Daschound pictures came from various breed sites, with the exact author information unclear, otherwise, I'd post where I got 'em from (NOTE - I have since removed the pics)), but so far, I've seen plenty of behavior on her part to suggest that they were correct on both breeds.  She's smart, very smart, highly creative, excessively active, willing to learn and brave as can be (albeit a little nervous sometimes). We're taking a few agility classes these days, hence the animated graphic above - she actually knows how to do ALL of the obstacles shown. (Not necessarily that WELL, mind you, but what she lacks in accuracy, she more than makes up for in enthusiasm). I'll post more on her later....
01/01/01 Update....
Yes, it's been more than a couple of weeks....I daresay that real life intervened again...but I do have an update.  Tilly and I have joined a flyball team, the Ulti-Mutts, which is associated with
Mad City Dog Training.  She is doing excellent, and has so far acheived the title of "Flyball Dog", at least by our club's estimate of the points she acquired in the one and only tournament we've been in.  NAFA's site, so far, doesn't include this, but as I have no idea how often they update.... (oh, and I forgot - I've uploaded a couple of puppy pics of her, at about four months and at nearly a year, take a look here!)  By the way, I also have another page off of Netscape.
