Con Cave
Description
Camping
Con Cave is not really friendly infact its tight and hard to get through. It starts with a crawl through a small opening at the bottom of a cliff. A few feet in it drops down about ten feet and its not fun trying to crawl down in the dark. Past this is a short walk to what appears to be a cave-in and the end of the trail. To the left is enough room to squeeze through some rocks and continue the trip. One of the rooms you come to on this part is high, very high.
Once again you will come to a room and look to see where to go. On the right there is a board stuck in the mud and you have to bely crawl through. On the other side of this and towards the end it seems like you are crawling through a crack and here it gets tricky again. You almost have to hop from a little stone bridge to a little stone bridge with a nice fall waiting for you if you slip. At the very end is the onion. A small crystalized waterfall coming straight out of stone made of stone and minerals. You have reached the end.

A visit to Con Cave on 9/4/04.
Well it has been a few years since I have been to Bear Cave and even longer since I have been to Con Cave because it was closed. To my surprise I also found the trail system was changed around so nobody can walk past the resevoir.
Well, after a few hours of walking all over the mountain and not finding Bear Cave because of the new unfamiliar trails I found Con Cave. Con Cave is open!!!! Sure people break legs and backs and what ever other rumors I heard but it was nice to see the cave open again.
Its been about fifteen years since I last crawled my way back to the onion and touched it. The onion I speak of is a crystalized water fall at the end of the cave.
I completed the trip with a buddy of mine, Bill C, and it was his first time in any cave. The day would have been better if we could of found Bear Cave sooner.
Pictures taken 9/4/04 at entrance to Con Cave. Click on pictures for larger images and you will also notice the metal plates attached to the rock face that used to hold the bars in place that kept this cave closed for too many years. This is a dangerous cave to explore.
