Chase you down with an eggbeater and make you give it back? Too messy. Kidnap your gerbil and hold it ransom? Too cruel. Sob quietly to myself in an empty corner of a dark room away from all human contact? Probably. .....At least tell me if you want something. I won't bite. I'll just come to your house and kick your dog.
Old School (R)
Rating: B
My interest was certainly piqued when I first saw a trailer for this movie. I kind of like the concept of taking an American Pie brand of script and applying more "adult" actors and actresses to the roles. In addition, the older coterie in question consist of none other than Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, and Luke Wilson-three decent actors of whom I would think most people haven't seen enough to be tired of them just yet. Indeed, Vince Vaughn, methinks, is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood today. In his movies he tends to play some variation of a prick, but he plays the role so well, that I just can't imagine people not thinking, "I know a dickwad just like that!!" Besides, I hope I'm not alone in my sentiments when I say that if I see Jason Biggs in another movie, I'm going to speed over to the production studio, slowly decapitate the little shit with my baby fingernail, and stick his head on a pike along the road as a caveat to all the other up-and-coming young stars, so that might turn around and return to that festering rectal wound from which they came. That goes for you too, Julia Stiles. Bitch.

Old School tells the tale of three college buddies who, having grown up, are finding it difficult to venture beyond their partying roots. There are a few relationship dumps here and there along with some nudity (some good and some that will make you envy blind people), but other than that it's purely a comedy. The whole plot is silly and completely contrived, but then again the movie is supposed to make you laugh, not provide the spiritual direction needed to reach Enlightenment.

Again, if you like Vince Vaughn, you have no excuse to miss this movie. I think that Will Ferrell had intended to be the big funny guy (seeing how just about every freakin' scene has his gawky ass in it), but personally I found myself relying on Vaughn to deliver the real laughs. Indeed, he did so. Luke Wilson isn't really funny at all, unless of course you consider that he looks like a Tom Cruise who got his head squeezed in a machine press. Craig Kilborn even graces us with his strangely anorexic presence, playing the traditional "seemingly loyal fiancée who for the life of him just can't keep his dick in his pants."

The actresses are forgettable at best, with their only memorable scene involving Andy Dick and a whole bunch of phallic vegetables. This, by the way, is a completely UNNECESSARY scene that really fails to have the effect the producers expected. You'll see what I mean.

So in short, Old School is a funny movie and is worth its salt if you've got the time. Even if you don't, at least try to give it a shot eventually-- the movie is not awful by any means. I guarantee that you'll laugh many times.
