1999-2000 Year

We started off the year on a high note: We got a new lab! The previous lab had been a long closet that branched off the greenhouse, right next to the Physics wind tunnel. Our new lab has *three* doors (making it no longer a fire hazard), running water, and it doesn't smell bad.

In the fall of '99, we participated in the BEST competition (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology). The purpose was to build a robot out of supplies on a list, and parts from an old printer. Our creation was named "Athena" after the Greek goddess of wisdom and war. We placed second in reigonals, and then went on to the state meet at Texas A&M.

In the spring of '00, we entered the Physics Olympics. There were many different events, and we placed highly in Egg Drop and Electromagnet. Other events included catapult, dry ice container, paper bridge, mousetrap car, Fermi questions, and spontaneous event.

With our increased budget, we were able to buy a bunch of great new tools so that we could give Abbo back all the tools we had to borrow. BEST is going to be great next year!

Our coaches were Mr. Richard Abbondanzio and Mr. Peter Lohstreter. Russel Powell came from TI to contribute to Athena during the BEST competition. Our officers included:
