As a practicing lawyer in the High Court of Karnataka and a Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly for six terms from 1972-1999 from Karkala, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka M. Veerappa Moily has over 30 years of experience in public service, policy-making, governance and politics. Moily has been a Member of the Congress Party since 1968 and is one of the senior-most members of the Congress party in Karnataka. Moily is also a prolific writer and is widely regarded as an able administrator and modern-day thinker who values and respects people regardless of their sex, religion, social and ethnic backgrounds, religious belief or economic status.

Publications

 

Moily is one of the prominent literary figures in Karnataka in the last two decades. Some of his more successful publications are listed below.

 

Ç     Sri Ramayana Mahanveshanam -  the poem will be published across five volumes, Volumes I Ð IV have already been released from February 2001 to March 2004. Originally published in Kannada, the epic poem is being translated into Hindi.

Ç     Musings on India Ð a collection of articles, Sapna Publications and Full Circle, New Delhi, 2001

Ç     Suligali, Sagardeepa, Kotta and  Thembare.  Originally written in Kannada, these anthropological novels have been translated into Hindi, English and Tamil. Kotta has been telecast as a telefilm in Kannada and Hindi directed by M.S Sathyu.

Ç     Milana, Parajitha and Premavendare - Dramas

Ç     Halu-Jenu Maththe, Nadeyali Samara and Yakshaprashne Ð a collection of poems.

 

Moily is also a regular columnist for leading print and electronic media including The Hindu, Frontline, Deccan Herald, Samyukta Karnataka and Satyam Online
