Research Emphasis

Major areas of focus in my research program involve all aspects of restoration, rehabilitation and reforestation of degraded ecosystems (especially open cast coal mines); determining negative effects of pollutants; examining factors that explain patterns of ecosystem recovery; fire effects on forest ecosystem components and urban forestry.

·  M.Sc. 1986. Silviculture, Istanbul University (Turkey). Primary concentrations: Afforestation, Silviculture, Provenance Experiments. Thesis Title: Determination of Some Qualitative and Quantitative Differences between Some Provenances in Spruce (Picea orientalis) Provenance Experiment in Belgrad Forest.

·  Determination of Potential Erosion Risk in Karaburun Peninsula Using Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems.

·  Studies on Soil Reclamation and Revegetation Possibilities in Aydin Lignite Company's Open Cast Mining Area.

·  Determination of Effective Ectomychorrizal Fungi in Calabrian Pine (Pinus brutia) Forest Ecosystems in Izmir.

·  Air Pollution Effects on the Forested Ecosystems in the Aegean Region.

 

Completed Research Projects:

·  “In Situ” Conservation of Genetic Diversity in Turkey. Information Technology Management Plan, Database Design, and GIS Applications Development (1998).

·  Determination of Ecological Conditions, Suitable Reforestation Techniques and Tree Species in Coal Mined Forest Lands in the Aegean Region of Turkey (1992-2003).

·  Studies on the Resin production of the Calabrian pine (Pinus brutia) in the Aegean Region of Turkey (1989).

·  Provenance experiments of Calabrian Pine (Pinus brutia) in the Aegean Region (1989).
