PLANTING FOR BIOMASS : Site area to be freshly ploughed or dug over. Then rotovated to break down the soil. Small scale planting can be done through black polythene which also helps supress the weeds. Spacing can vary, if using tractors and machines allow for wheel width. Plant 0.5 meters between the cuttings and 0.75 m and 1.5 m between the rows. After soaking the cuttings over night in water, plant to a dept of 20 cm, coloured end upwards. Good weed control essential, no fertilizers necessary. After first years growth stems can be cut back to encourage multiple shoots.
