Summer Memories

New Stamp In progress of being made.

Be sure to bring the clues to Shubert Marsh (check out my website), Chimney Trail, and Waterfalls 9 . This is a 1 1/2 hr round trip hike.

Directions

From New Haven head East on I-95 to exit 63. Make left at light and then another quick left on Route 81 North. Follow 81 approximately 5 miles to the RT 81/RT 80 circle. Follow Circle 3/4 around and head west on RT 80 1 mile to park entrance on your right.

From RT 9 CT get off exit 9 and head South on RT 81. Go approximately 8 miles to RT 81/RT 80 Circle. Make your first right onto RT 80 West and proceed 1 mile to park entrance on your right.

Clues

When you get to the park pull in go past the toll booth (pay if you have to) and continue down the road. Soon you will come to a small parking area just before a sign for the look out trail. Pull in and park your car. You should see a wood gate in back.

Go to this gate and follow the trail that it is blocking. After about a mile of gradual uphill you will see another dirt road/trail on your left. Take it. After a 1/2-mile hike on this road, the blue trail will go off to the right over a muddy patch. Take this trail. After a quick uphill you will come to a small ledge overlooking a large marsh. In the spring the frogs can be deafeningly loud here. You might want a snack here because the next part is a 1/2-mile of uphill hiking. When the trail finally flattens look to your left for an unmarked trail. Take this path until you notice it suddenly get a little steeper. Get out your compass and take 15 steps on 242°. This box will now be at your feet. After you're done walk the same way you came back to your car. This time though it will be all downhill. YAY!
