The 47/6s- a sub class dedicated to the sleepers
In 1991 a small sub class was created.  The 47/6s were born complete with uprated ETS but with their speeds reduced to 75mph.  All of the seven locomotives modified were allocated to Inverness and were allocated for sleeper duties between Inverness/Aberdeen and London.  They did, however, find themselves on other duties like Inverness/Aberdeen-Edinburgh/Glasgow as well as local freight duties.

Although the class had a short career, they will always be remembered by railfans across scotland and england as well.  They were symbolic of the scottish region and its independance from the rest of the network but also each and every one had worn a stag at some point.  Not all the locos were success stories however, as shown by 47672 which spent more time in store than in service!  That didn't stop 47854 (674) becoming one of the last 47s to work for Virgin Cross-Country or 47790 being one of the last in the EWS serviceable fleet.  Now only 47854 remains in service with WCRC at Carnforth.  Shocking and a terrible shame.
