PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY 2003 AS

SCHOLARSHIP MONTH

WHEREAS, National Scholarship Month was created in 1998 to raise public awareness about the need for scholarships for postsecondary education; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that we continue to encourage our young citizens to excel in their education and more importantly that we continue to pursue as many resources as possible in order to provide them with every feasible opportunity; and

WHEREAS, Hilltop High School Dollars for Scholars and Castle Park High School Alumni Dollars for Scholars are programs created by parents and community members to provide scholarships to deserving students; and

WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista commends the parents for their dedicated efforts, the many contributors for their financial support, and our students for their outstanding achievements:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEPHEN C. PADILLA, 38^th Mayor of the City of Chula Vista, California, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2003 as SCHOLARSHIP MONTH in the City of Chula Vista, and on behalf of the citizens and the City Council, extend our deep appreciation to the parents, student volunteers and other local individuals, businesses and civic organizations for their continued support.
