Sir Isaac Newton
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, England, the same year Galilieo died.
Newton is clearly the most influential scientist who ever lived. His accomplishments in mathematics,
optics, and physics led the foundations for modern science and revolutionized the world.
As a mathematician, Newton inented calculus. He also calculated a formula for finding the velocity of
sound in a gas.
Newton made a huge impact on astronomy. He defined the laws of motion and universal gravitation
which he used to predict the motions of stars, and the planets around the sun. Using his discoveries in
optics Newton constructed the first reflecting telescope.
Newton found science as a big book of  facts and laws, capable of describing some phenomena, and
predicting only a few. He left it with a system of laws, that could be applied to an enormous range of
physical phenomena, and used to make exact predications. Newton published his works in two books,
namely "Opticks" and "Principia." In the ?Principia? were Newton?s 3 laws of motion, which were:
1st Law- A body remains at rest, or moves in a straight line at a constant speed, unless acted on
by an outside force
2nd Law: Acceleration of an object is proportional to the force acting on that object.
3rd Law: When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body exerts an equal and
opposite force on the first body
Newton died in 1727 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
