Trek Techincal Information NEW!!

This a a cloumn invented to take an indepth look at cultures, technology and cast members. Come here every week for a new feature

Transporter Effect (TOS)

This week we will be taking an indepth look at the Transporter! The transporter is a transportation device that converts objects or persons to energy, sends that energy to the destination, and reconstitutes the objects/persons back into matter. Transporters cannot beam objects through deflector shields. As nice as this may sound, the transporter has had some difficulty throughout the years like in "The Enemey Within"(TOS) when Kirk's alter-ego blasts a hole in the converter assembly of an already broken transporter. Another incident was when in Star Trek: The Motion Picture Commander Sonak and his party tried to beam up to the Enterprise but the transporter was still not working properly and unfortunately they all died seconds after arriving back at Starfleet. When asked why he created the transporter Gene Roddenberry said "... well I can't think of any way to land this damn thing." And while the transporter remains in constant use in Star Trek, Austailian scientists have finally been able to make one of their own. Eventhough it was only a beam of light that was transported, the human race may not be too far from the Star Trek tool. DB2003
