Amanda Leigh Moore was born to Don and Stacy
Moore on April 10, 1984 in Nashua, New Hampshire, but considers herself a
Florida native considering her family moved to Orlando when she was just seven
weeks old. As a child Mandy spent much of her time watching her favorite
musicals and exploring her love of performing. It was when she was six years old
that Mandy first though about becoming a performer. When she and her family saw
a production of the musical Oklahama, Mandy saw how much fun the lead girl was
having and decided that is what she wanted to dow ith her life. Her parents
allowed mandy to pursue her passion by enrolling her in several musical theater
camps which solidified in Mandy a desire to perform. Mandy soon began singing at
sporting events and garnered the nickname "national anthem girl" due to the
sheer number of performances Mandy gave. Little did she know these performances
would lead to international stardom...
National Anthem Girl
After one of her performances, Mandy was approached by two men interested in
recording some songs with her. This demo Mandy would record landed her a record
deal, and before she knew it, Mandy was in the studio recording her first album.
As Mandy expressed, "I had no idea where it would all lead-I was just so glad to
have the opportunity to sing." Propelled by her debut single Candy, Mandy's
first album So Real went platinum and launched Mandy into worldwide stardom.
This success allowed Mandy to tour with such popular acts as The Backstreet Boys
and N'SYNC. Even with all the fame thrust upon Mandy at such a young age, she
managed to keep a level head by keeping close ties with friends and family. Her
next album, I Wanna Be With You, also went platinum fueled by the album's title
track. After two successful albums, Mandy found herself at a crossroads in her
career...
Fame at 14
For her third studio album Mandy wanted to break away from the bubblegum pop
image she had acquired and show her depth and talent as a recording artist. The
self-titled album that emerged from this decision proved to be a poignant,
lyrically inspiring collection of songs that wowed music lovers and critics
alike. However, the album was not as commercially successful as her previous
efforts and in spite of the critical acclaim and fan admiration, many saw the
album as unsuccessful compared to that of her pop-counterparts. It was during
this time that Mandy began to dabble in acting, taking on small roles in such
Disney films as Dr. Doolittle 2 and The Princess Diaries. It wasn't until she
was offered the lead role in the film adaption of Nicholas Sparks' best-selling
novel A Walk To Remember that audiences began to take notice of Mandy's natural
silver screen presence. The success of the film made Mandy virtually the only
pop-star to cross over into movie stardom, a feat that both Britney Spears and
N'SYNC were unable of accomplishing. Mandy was now able to freely pursue
interests in both the film and musical worlds.
Breaking The Mold
Mandy has shown her diversity by taking on parts in films like How To Deal,
where she plays a young woman with a horrible outlook on love, as well as
Flirting With Disaster, where she plays the president's daughter rebelling
against the conformity she has known most of her life by escaping the protection
of her secret service agents. Throughout this time in Mandy's life, she has also
expanded her musical diversity, by recording the album Coverage. This album was
the most personal and beloved project of Mandy's career. In fact, Mandy financed
the project herself and kept it hidden from her record label so she could make
it on her terms. And on her terms it was made, opting for a 'garage band' type
atmosphere, Mandy has taken twelve songs, none huge successes in their day, and
breathed new life into them. Receiving rave reviews from both critics and fans
alike, Mandy is sure to stick around for quite awhile for her talents will keep
her on the music/movie/etc. radar for as long as she pleases.
